We believe there are some natural organizations and institutions who can help make the goal of every child in our state being read to every day for 20 minutes a reality. Schools, libraries, churches and other faith groups, service clubs, govermental agencies, educational and cultural groups, doctors and associations who have as their purpose the aiding of ethnic minorities are all possibilities. We realize there are others. While individual groups can accomplish a lot by themselves, community cooperation is probably best.
We firmly believe that every community in Kansas has the resources to accomplish the goal, because every community in Kansas has Kansans. You can and should do it your way. What follows are some suggestions and examples of what others have done. Our experience is that as soon as people start talking about reading to children, the ideas start pouring out! You know best what local resources you have, who are the people to ask, and what are probably the best approaches. When you find out what worked for your community, let us know.
Kansas has the chance to show how to make a better world for children. What a great thing to do!
