This $10,000 award will improve library services statewide by equipping Kansas librarians to become Web experts for their communities. As a result of this project, 100 librarians will receive free Web space for civic pages on Blue Skyways, the Kansas library community's World Wide Web service.
With grant funds, the State Library, University of Kansas Medical Center and regional library systems will deliver training workshops across the state, beginning in mid-1997. These sessions will show librarians how to develop and maintain civic pages on Blue Skyways, and how to train Web developers in their towns.
As proactive community information specialists, participating librarians will take the lead in putting their towns on the digital global map. By serving as Web experts for their communities, they will assume a higher profile than ever before.
"We are elated about this endorsement of Blue Skyways," said Jim Bingham, KLNB chair. "The Network Board looks forward to working with our partners statewide to build a service all Kansans can be proud of."
