On May 29, 2000, a bronze, life-sized, statue of Corporal Ness was unveiled - it resides on the courthouse lawn.
George Washington Carver homesteaded near Beeler and built himself
a sod house. Two years later he sold the farm for money to go to
college with. There's an
historical marker beside
K-96 and a
stone monument on his homestead.
William G. Cutler's
History of Kansas, first published in 1883, tells about
early Ness County.
There is a section on Ness County in the book
Kansas: a Cyclopedia Of State History
by Frank Blackmar (1912).
The Kansas State Historical Society has
historical data for Ness County online including a rich bibliography and lists of
cemeteries, post offices, and newspapers.
The Special Collections of the Ablah Library at WSU contain historical images of
Utica,
Ransom,
Ness City, and
Beeler.
