I recently ordered a Civil War pension application filed by Elizabeth Thomas, widow of John Thomas. It turns out not to be the John and Elizabeth I am looking for, and I would be delighted to pass it on. Elizabeth "Bettie" Williams Thomas lived at 931 Pottawatomie St., Leavenworth, KS and died 16 Dec. 1933. She was the second wife of John Thomas, a black man and ex-slave who served in "Co. A, 83d U. S. col'd Troops Vols." His first wife's name was Serilda and they had one child, Hattie Jane, who died in the late 1870s. Elizabeth had a sister named Nannie Mason and a brother named Charles Williams. It appears that John Thomas was born in Lexington, MO, and belonged to the Bullen family, which was related to the Walton family. If you are related to John or Elizabeth, the file is yours.

Is there a possibility that the "Kansas Commoner" (1885) was precursor to the "Kansas City Star" or was in any way connected?
The extract below may be my Gr-Grandfather, Richard Lightfoot WRIGHT:
R. L. WRIGHT, 511 Cherokee, Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, Traveling Correspondent - Kansas Commoner Source: Leavenworth City Directory 1885
Thanks for any insights.

Could some one please direct me to the records for births in Leavenworth, KS. I am looking for the birth certificate for James Marion Caudle (Cauddle or Cauttle). Born 31 December 1856.
I need to find the names of his parents. I believe that his mother or step-mother was a Dora Skenk?, born in 1834 in KS.
Please contact me if you have any information that I might use. It will be greatly appreciated.

My paternal Grandmother, Effie B. Huggins, was born in Ottumwah Kansas, March 31, 1870, according to her own notes in family bible. She also states that her father, "Jo. Huggins, died June 9th, 1910, age 75 yrs. No of his grave at soldiers Home Leavenworth Kansas (3724 Dec. 29)". I believe he was a Civil War veteran. All I have is copy of aphoto of Effie and her father, standing in the road in front of a wood frame building on which is the sign "Huggins Livery". This may have been in Madison, Kansas, or in Burlington, where she married my grandfather, Warrick Wiley Webb, Nov. 2, 1892. Any information about Huggins family would be greatly appreciated. Best regards.

I am looking for information on my Grandfather Henry Porter. He was born Feb. 8, 1891, in Easton, Leavenworth County, Kansas. I have found him listed with possibly a brother George and a sister Esther, all living with their Grandmother Mary Mcorcoran in Easton, this information was from the 1900 Census. George was born in November 1889, and Esther was born in Sept. 1886. Their Grandmother was from Ireland, born about 1835. Thank you, Doris Foiles

I am researching the Cushenberry surname (all spellings). I found two people in the voter registration for an 1855 election.
1854/56 voter reg records Daniel Cushenbery County/Dist 4
1854/56 voter reg records James S Cushinberry Leavenworth
Would love any info/advice on how to find out more about these gentlemen. Could men from Missouri have crossed over to vote in these elections?

I need to know where to send for a death record for the year of 1906 in Leavenworth City, or county, I don't know which. I'm looking for Minnie Hall, died in 1906 in childbirth along with the child, named Benjamin or Bennie. I'm pretty sure she died in Leavenworth, but is buried in Moberly, MO. Who do I need to contact for this information? Been searching for a long time for her.

I have a photograph taken prior to 1904 of a group of ladies (this particular photo was taken in Linwood, Kansas) that belonged to an organization called the True Kindred Conclave of Kansas.
Can anyone tell me anything about this organization or what they did?

David P. HARRIS and Mary Nelson Harris lived in Leavenworth County, Delaware Twp., KS from about 1867 until their deaths, (his - 1885; hers - 1902). I'm trying to locate descendents of some of their children who stayed in Kansas: David Early Harris; Christopher Colombus Harris; Lorenzo Dow Harris; and Finis Pulaska Harris (all were born in Missouri between 1846 and 1855). There were eight other children, but I don't believe they stayed in Kansas. I'd enjoy sharing the informtion I have found.
