James B. Standiford, of High Prairie, Dies at 80

James B.. Standiford, 80, a prominent farmer in Leavenworth county, died shortly after 9 o'clock this morning at his home on rural route one after an illness of six months.

Mr. Standiford was born in Leavenworth, in March, 1858, and moved to High Prairie township in 1893. He had lived there since that time. He was active in High Prairie township affairs, having served as township trustee for four years; on the cemetery board for 39 years and on the school board for ten years. His wife, Mrs. Anna Standiford, died February 11, 1938.

He is survived by a son, Robert Standiford, and a grandson, Raymond Standiford, both of the home address.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Sexton funeral chapel with the Rev. C. Z. Allsbury, pastor of the Jarbalo Methodist church, officiating. Interment will be in High Prairie cemetery. The body will remain at the chapel until the hour of services.

Mrs. John Forge, 68, Dies at St. John's

A Resident of Leavenworth County All Her Life; Funeral Saturday.

Mrs. Elizabeth Forge, 68, rural route four, died at 5:30 o'clock this morning at St. John's Hospital after an extended illness. She was born at Fort Leavenworth June 30, 1870, and her entire life time was spent in Leavenworth county.

Mrs. Forge was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Short, early day residents. She was educated in the schools at Fort Leavenworth and would have celebrated her golden wedding anniversary in October. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church.

Mrs. Forge is survived by her husband, John Forge, of the home, one daughter, Miss Elizabeth Forge, Kansas City, MO., six sons; Thomas Forge 1016 Kickapoo street, Henry Forge rural route four, Archibald Forge, John Forge, Jr., Lewis Forge and William Forge, all of the home address; one sister, Mrs. M.J.O'Connor, 231 Walnut Street, and two brothers, John Craven, Kansas City, Mo., and Thomas Kelley, Los Angeles, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at nine o'clock at St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rev. Fr. Frank Krause, O. Carm., will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Friends will assemble tonight at 7:30 o'clock at the O'Donnell funeral chapel for recitation of the rosary. The body will be taken to residence on rural route four Friday afternoon and will remain there until the hour of services. Friends will recite the rosary at the home Friday night at eight o'clock.

Dies at Age of 84

Mrs. Helen Virginia Tuttle, a resident here 79 years, who died today.

Mrs. Helen Virginia Tuttle, 84, 924 Shawnee street, died at her home this morning after a brief illness.

Mrs. Tuttle was born a Weston, Mo., October 8, 1855. She came to Leavenworth 79 years ago. She was married to Lynton Carroll Tuttle at East Leavenworth, Mo., April 6, 1871. She was a member of the Methodist church and was widely known throughout the city and county.

She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Charles Hoctor, 615 Kickapoo street; Mrs. Maude Jost, 403 North Third street; Mrs. Stella Johnson, Kansas City, Mo.; Mabel Williams of the home address; Mrs. Otto Hertel, 206 South Eleventh street and Mrs. N.B. McBroom, Williamsport, Ind.; two sons, Lynton Tuttle 706 Osage street, a Leavenworth city fireman; and F. C. Tuttle, Redding, Calif., one sister, Mrs. Harry Marks, 911 South Fifth street; 11 grandchildren, four great grand-children, and one great great granddaughter.

The body is at the Davis funeral church pending funeral arrangements.

William GIESE was born 1854 in Germany,, and died July 31, 1941 in Leavenworth,Ks. Retired Farmer Was Native of Germany and 53 years ago came to Leavenworth County; William Giese, 87, died at 9:30 o'clock this morning at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth LaMay, 1000 Shawnee street, where he recently had made his home. He had been ill for the past two years. A native of Germany, Mr. GIESE came to America and to Leavenworth County 53 years ago, making continuously in this vicinity. Besides the daughter at whose home he died, Mr. Geise is survived by two other daughters; Mrs. A. Matzeder, rural route two, city, and Mrs. J.W.Mitchell, Rockville Center, N.Y.; four sons, William C. Geise, Rugby, Colo.; Albert Geise, Richardson, Frank Geise, Jefferson City, Mo. and John Geise, 328 Shoemaker avenue; 25 grandchildren; and 25 great-- grandchildren. Funeral services willbe at eight o'clock Monday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rev. Fr. Phillip Irwin, O, Carm., will officiate, Burial will be in the family lot in Mt. Calvary cemetery. The body wi! ll remain at the O'Donnell funeral chapel until ten o'clock Sunday morning when it will be taken to the home of Mrs. LaMay to remain there until the times services.

Prominent Farmer of High Prairie Township Was Born in Germany

Jacob Wingender, 74, well known farmer of High Prairie Township, died at seven o'clock last night at the family home on rural route one. He had been in failing health for several years.

Born at Baden Baden, Germany, March 27, 1867, Mr. Wingender came to America when 14 years of age, first settling at Rochester, N.Y. A veteran of the Indian wars, Mr. Wingender enlisted August 19, 1887, in Company G. Twelfth Unted States Infantry and was discharged August 18, 1892.

He had been a resident of Leavenworth County for more than fifty years. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Married at St. Joseph, Mo., November 14, 1906, he is survived by his widow, of the home address; two daughters, Mrs. Clara Schleicher, St. Joseph, Mo., and Mrs. Louise Batton, Casper, Wyo.; five sons, Joseph Wingender, Fargo, N.D.; Charles Wingender, Omaha, Nebr.; Samuel Wingender, Twenty-second and Dakota Streets, city; Jacob Wingender, Tonganoxie; Roy Bartman, rural route four, Leavenworth; three sisters, Mrs. Katherine Marquart, Rochester, N.Y.; Mrs Louise Dick, Auburn, N.Y., and Mrs Adelaide Steimle, Baden Baden, Germany.

Funeral services will be at nine o'clock Thursday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rev. Fr. Leonard Kinzler will officiate.

Burial will be in the National cemetery, Fort Leavenworth.

The body will remain at the Sexton chaper until the hour of services.

JOSEPH STUDDARD DIES AT LANSING

Retired Mine Officer Was Ill Past 18 Months

Funeral Services Thursday

Joseph Studdard, 69, a retired mine officer at Kansas State prison, Lansing, died Friday afternoon at five o'clock at his home at Lansing. He had been ill the past 18 months.

Mr. Studdard was born at Camden Point, Mo., December 18, 1872, and had been a resident of Leavenworth County more than 50 years.

He married Miss Rachel Young at Lansing, February 19, 1900. He served as an officer in the prison mine during the administrations of Governors Clyde Reed and Alf M. Landon.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Rachel Studdard, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Josephine Alford, of the home; three sons, Frank Studdard, of San Francisco, Calif.; William Studdard, Lansing; James Studdard, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Thomas, Leavenworth; Mrs. Gus Nitsche, Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers, John Studdard, Argentine, Kas.; Frank Studdard, Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Sexton Funeral Chapter. Interment will be in the Studdard family lot in Mount Muncie Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral chapel until the hour of services.

Mrs. Jarowitz is Dead at Age of 73

A Native of Poland -- Funeral Services Will be Held Thursday

Death came at 6:45 o'clock this morning for Mrs. Mary Jarowitz, 73 years old, 2211 Rose Street, at Cushing Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for the last several days.
Born in Poland, October 25, 1868, Mrs. Jarowitz came to Leavenworth when 15 years of age, making her home here since. As Miss Mary Czapski she was married in Leavenworth to Joseph Jarowitz, October 7, 1885. Mr. Jarowitz died April 17, 1935.
Surviving are five sons, John Jarowitz, 408 Marion Street; Andrew Jarowitz, Vallejo, Calif.; Frank Jarowitz, 212 Maple Avenue; James Jarowitz, 2211 Rose Street; Mike Jarowitz, 212 Maple Avenue; two brothers, Mike Zielenski, Second and Chestnut Streets, and John Czapski, a resident of Germany; one sister, Mrs. Veronica Laboda, Leavenworth; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Thursday morning at the David funeral church, Chaplain Franklyn R. Beery of the Veterans Administration Facility, Wadsworth, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Muncie cemetery.

C. Rodenberg Dies After a Brief Illness

Well-Known Farmer Native Of Lansing--Was 54--Funeral Tuesday

Chris Rodenburg 54 years of age, a life resident of Leavenworth County, died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning at his residence, a short distance southwest of Leavenworth on rural route two. He had been ill only about one week.

Born at Lansing, September 30, 1887, Mr. Rodenburg had spent his entire life in this community and was among the better known farmers of Delaware township. He was a member of the Lutheran church.

A son of Chris and Laura Rodenburg, early residents of Leavenworth County, Mr. Rodenburg was married January 28, 1913, to Miss Maude Marcott, who survives him.

He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Robert Krueger, Lansing, a son William H. Rodenburg, Leavenworth rural route two; four brothers, Arthur Rodenburg, Lansing; Edward Rodenburg, Kansas City, Kas.; Fred Rodenburg, Nineteenth and Cherokee streets; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Moser, Lansing; Mrs. Minnie Morrison, 516 Chestnut street; Mrs. Adam Willard, 115 Kingman street; Mrs. Fern Denny, Nineteenth and Dakota streets, and Mrs. Laura Cornett, 513 Arch street.

Funeral services will be held at 3:45 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Davis funeral church, The Rev. A. O. Rast, pastor of St. Paul' Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Mount Muncie cemetery.

HERMAN FISCHER IN SUDDEN DEATH--DIED SEPTEMBER 23, 1942

. Herman A. Fischer, 76 years old, Twenty-First street and Ohio avenue, died yesterday afternoon in a sudden attack while walking in the yard at his home. He had not previously complained of illness.

Born in Arnswald, Germany, September 8, 1866, Mr. Fischer came to America when 21 years old. He had been a resident of Leavenworth 55 years, mostly engaged in farming.

Mr. Fischer's marriage to Miss Amelia Fritz was on August 6,1892, the ceremony being at the Lutheran church. They observed their golden wedding anniversary this year. Previous to moving to their present home they had resided for many years on rural route four, leaving there 21 years ago.

Other than his widow, Mr. Fischer leaves two daughters, Miss Martha Fischer, of the home; Mrs. Thomas Farquar, Kansas City, Mo.; three sons , Henry Fischer of the home; Private Frank Fischer, U. S. Army, Camp Wolters, Tex.; Otto Fischer of the home; a sister, Mrs. Augusta Schonherr, 803 Olive street; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Sexton funeral chapel. Burial will be in Mount Muncie cemetery. The body will remain at the chapel.

J. H. Schwartz Dies Following A Heart Attack

In Usual Good Health, Saturday Night--Death Was At 3 A.M. Sunday.

FUNERAL TOMORROW

Was Farming in Fairmount Neighborhood--A Native Of the County

Joseph H. Schwartz, age 46, well known farmer residing in the Fairmount community, died suddenly yesterday morning at 3 o'clock at his home. Suffering a heart attack at 10:30 o'clock, a physician was called and Mr. Schwartz apparently was resting easily when he suffered the second and fatal attack. He had appeared in his usual health upon retirement Saturday night.

Born in Salt Creek Valley, Kickapoo township, June 4, 1896, Mr. Schwartz had spent all his life in Leavenworth County. He was a son of the late Joseph Schwartz and Mrs. Minnie Schwartz.

Mr. Schwartz and Miss Frances Hund were married November 16, 1920, having since made their home at Fairmount. For a number of years Mr. Schwartz operated a milk route. For the last four years he had been operating the old Mose Harvey farm.

Rosary Service Tonight

Other than his widow, of the home, he leaves three daughters, Mildred, Mary Margaret and Clara Schwartz; and three sons, Joseph, Jr., Leo and Edward Schwartz, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Schwartz, 621 Ottawa street; a sister, Mrs. Marie Klansinski, 613 Ottawa street; and a brother, Henry Schwartz, rural route four, Kickapoo township.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the Rev. Leo Ahern, pastor of the Basehor Catholic church, officiating at the requiem mass. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery.

Friends will assemble tonight at 8 o'clock at the Sexton funeral chapel for a rosary service. The body will remain at the chapel until the hour of services.
