Taken from the Leavenworth Times July 8, 1963, Death date July 7, 1963, by Sue Rush EVERETT G. KNAPP SERVICES PENDINGEverett G. Knapp, 74, 421 Central, died suddenly Sunday night at his home. Although he had been in failing health for five years, his death was unexpected. Death was thought to be due to a cerebral hemorrhage.Mr. Knapp was born at Leavenworth, June 10,1889, a son of Everett D. and Addie Colby Knapp. He attended Leavenworth schools and at an early age began working as a core maker for the Great Western Foundry, where he worked for 28 years. After its closing he worked for 12 years for the Abernathy Furniture Co. as a furniture inspector, retiring in 1952. At Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 7, 1908, he was married to Miss Martha Schwandt. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1958. Besides Mrs. Knapp of the home, he is survived by one son, Everett G. Knapp Jr., Bethel; one sister, Mrs Ethel Smith, St. Joseph, Mo., a niece, Mrs. Willis Klingele, 402 9th Ave., and one grandson. Funeral service will be held at the Davis Funeral Chapel at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. The body is at the chapel. |

RANDY DEAN RUSH A 18 month old boy died today from apparent carbon monoxide asphyxiation. His mother, Mrs. Terry Rush, RR2, was in critical condition this afternoon with carbon monoxide poisoning. |

reprinted from the Leavenworth Times,Monday Evening, July, 6, 1964, page 5, column 5. Mrs. Charlotte A. Smith, 88, 221 Miami, a life resident of Leavenworth, died Sunday morning at her home. Born Feb. 5, 1876, in Leavenworth, she was a daughter of Herman and Celiva Biart Hoffman. On Feb. 29, 1896 in Leavenworth, she married Frank W. Smith. Mr. Smith died July 19, 1933. For 43 years she operated the Smith Antique Shop at 220 Delaware. She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alilda H. West of the home; an adopted son, Vincent Schneider, Weston, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Crecesent Ozmun, El Reno, Okla., and Mrs. Helena Allington, Albany, Calif. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The Rev. Michael Mullen, assistant pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Larkin funeral home. |

reprinted from the Leavenworth Times, Wednesday Evening, July 8, 1964, page 5, column 6. Agnes Gontarewitz, 79, 1420 Olive, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at her home. She had been a lifetime resident. She was born Jan. 3, 1885, in Leavenworth, a daughter of Louis and Catherine Shudrowitz. In 1905 at St. Casimir's Church, she was married to Phillip Gontarewitz. Mr. Gontarewitz died March 13, 1949. She was a member of St. Casimir's Church and the St. Barbara Society. Surviving are five daughters, Miss Genevieve Gontarewitz of the home; Mrs. John Bell, 1423 Olive; Mrs. Frances Stevens, Brentwood, Mo.; Miss Catherine Gontarewitz of the home; Mrs. Robert Larkin, Texarkana, Tex; four sons, Frank Gontarewitz, 1428 Olive; James Gontarewitz, 514 Columbia, and Philip E. Gontarewitz of the home; one brother, John Shudrowitz, 313 Ottawa; 23 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church with the Rev. Frank Krul, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. |

reprinted from the Leavenworth Times, Friday Evening, July 10, 1964. Mrs. Anna Schaufler, 92, 131 Montezuma, a lifelong resident of Leavenworth County, died early today at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Schaufler had been failing health for several years. She was born in Leavenworth County on Sept. 19, 1871, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John G. Messinger. She attended local public schools and was married in Leavenworth County to Jacob Schaufler in 1893. He died on May 10, 1939. Surviving are one son, Frederick Schaufler, Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Eisler, 600 9th Ave., and Mrs. Lena Hartman, Chicago. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sexton Funeral Chapel. Rev. Dale Van Meter, pastor of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. |

Taken from the Leavenworth Times August 28, 1964 by Sue Rush Karolina Korth's Service Pending--Dies on 8-28-1964Mrs. Karolina Korth, 77, 1123 Metropolitan, a lifelong resident of Leavenworth, died Thursday afternoon at Cushing Memorial Hospital following and illness of the past two years. She had been a patient in the hospital 20 months.Mrs. Korth was born in Leavenworth on May 17, 1887, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Theisinger. She attended local schools and was married in Atchison to Fred G. Korth on Aug. 10, 1906. Mr. Korth died Sept. 26, 1952. Mr. Korth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Surviving are one son, William E. Korth of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Shirley Stone, Topeka; Mrs. Vera Rheinick, Long Island, N.Y.; Mrs. Geraldine King, Lakewood, N.J. and Mrs. Florence Hansen, Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Nielson, Bradenon, Fla.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending. The body will be at the Sexton Funeral Chapel after noon Saturday. The family suggests memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Cushing Memorial Hospital. |

Cline, 66, 730 Shawnee, proprietor of Cline Mattress Company, who died Saturday evening will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Larkin Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Schneeberger, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Troy Cemetery, Troy, Kan. Mr. Cline was born March 13, 1898 at Humboldt, Neb., a son of Frank A. and Charlotte Cline. On Jan. 19, 1925 at Wathena, Kan., he married Miss Mabel Case. Coming to Leavenworth from Wathena in 1930, h resided here for 34 years. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Mr. Cline is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mabel Cline of the home; one son, William E. Cline, Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Owens, Lawrence; and Mrs. Esther Lee King, Los Angeles, and six grandchildren. |

reprinted from the Leavenworth Times, Monday evening, September 28, 1964, Page 5, columns 3 & 4 Funeral service for James Taylor Muncie, 51, who died Friday night at his home 10 miles southwest of Leavenworth, was today in Atchison at the Dyer Funeral Home. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemeter, Atchison, with Masonic graveside service conducted by the Washington Masonic Lodge No. 5, Atchison. Mr. Muncie, a son of Elijah and Mary King Muncie, was born April 19, 1913, at Robinson, Kan., and had lived in the Leavenworth area since 1957. He had worked for the Midwest Solvents Co. at Atchison for over 30 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Veda Muncie of the home, and four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Theel, Leavenworth; Mrs. Harold Myers, Lancaster, Kan.; Mrs. Jeno Robertson, Winchester, and Mrs. Earl Sowers, Denver, four sisters, three brothers, and nine grandchildren. |

from Leavenworth Times IMOGENE BUTZIN DIES ON SUNDAY MRS. IMOGENE T. BUTZIN, 60, 322 Garland; wife of Frederick W. Butzin Sr., died Sunday night, Nov. 23, 1964, at Cushing Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for several months. Mrs. Butzin was born in Leavenworth on Oct. 27, 1904, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Conrad. She attended local public schools and was married in Leavenworth to Frederick W. Butzin on Dec. 14, 1922. She attended the Christian Science Church. Surviving besides her husband are one son, Frederick W. Butzin, Jr., Omaha, and three grandchildren. Funeral service is pending. The body is at the Sexton Funeral Chapel. |
