Student Dies After Crash On U.S. 73

Maureen J. Forge, 16, RR4, died at St. John Hospital today after a 2-car collision in front of her home on U.S. 73 about a mile and a quarter north of Leavenworth.

According to Undersheriff Earl Shaver, Miss Forge was on her way to Immaculata High School, where she was a sophomore. Shaver said the girl pulled from the driveway of her home and into the path of a car driven by Mrs. Wilma McClelland, 30, 215 N. 18th.

Mrs. McClelland was not severely injured but was taken to Cushing Memorial Hospital for examination. She was north bound when the crash occurred.

The impact pushed the Forge auto about 30 feet off the driveway and careened off the highway and into a pasture also on the south side of the road.

The fatality was the second recorded in the county this year.

Mrs. Forge was born Feb. 2, 1949 in Leavenworth.

Other than her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Forge of the home she is survived by two brothers, the Rev. Henry Lee Forge, St. Joseph Church, Shawnee, and Richard Forge, Kansas City, Kan., and two sisters, Winifred and Bernadette of the home.

The Immaculate High School will recite the Rosary on Friday at 3:15 p.m., and friends and members of the parish at 3 p.m. Friday at the Sumpter Funeral Chapel.

Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The body will be at the chapel after 6 p.m Thursday.

Calvin C. Jochims Funeral services will be held at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Seton Funeral Chapel for Calvin C. Jochims, 57, 103 4th Ave. He died Saturday night at Cushing Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home earlier in the day. Mr. Jochims was an assistant cashier of the First National bank. He was born Jan. 30, 1908 in Davenport, Iowa. He attended schools in Iowa and came to Leavenworth in 1927. He was married to Miss Rofena Patton in Kansas City, MO., in June 14, 1933. Mr. Jochims was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Leavenworth Masonic Lodge No. 2, and a past master of the lodge in 1944-45. He was also a member of Leavenworth Chapter No. 2, R.A.M., Leavenworth Council No. 1, R & S.M and Leavenworth Commandery No. 1, KT. He was deputy district grand master of Kansas for two years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Rofena Jochims; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Henrichesen, Tulsa, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Viola Lykam, Mrs. Ann Kelly and Mrs. Vera Shaw, all of Dav! enport, Iowa, and two grandchildren. The Rev. Fred S. Malott Jr., pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate at the rites. Burial will be in Mr. Muncie Cemetery. Leavenworth Lodge No. 2 will conduct a graveside service. Lon Rush Dies: Rites Saturday

LON RUSH, 86, retired Leavenworth County Commissioner died this morning, Dec. 9, 1965, at the Truitt Nursing Home, Tonganoxie. He had been in failing health the past 10 years.

Born March 24, 1879 in St. Louis, Mo., he was a son of Oscar and Antonia Rush. He had lived here for more than 80 years.

On Feb. 11, 1939 in Leavenworth, he married Miss Pauline Brown. He served as county comissioner for 30 years.

Mr. Rush is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pauline Rush of the home, 505 S. Main, Lansing; addopted son Ned Rush of Lansing; and one sister, Mrs. Leona Conklin, Kansas City, Ks.

Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Larkin Funeral Home. Elder Martin Shain, pastor of the Seventh Day' Adventist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. The body will be at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.

THELMA STUDDARD DIES HERE TODAY

Thelma Mae Studdard, 53, 202 S. Main, Lansing, died this morning at Cushing Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past six months.

Born May 28, 1912 at Bronson, Kan., she was a daughter of George and Elsie Potter. She received her early education in the Franklin and Arma, Kan., schools. She had lived in Lansing since 1929.

On July 20, 1929 at Girard, Kan., she was married to William R. Studdard. She was employed as a clerk at the J.C. Penney Co. from 1953-65.

She was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Church at Lansing, and was a past president of the altar society, and a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Mrs. Studdard is survived by her husband, William R. Studdard of the home; one daughter, Mrs Rose Knickerbocker, Ft. Ritchie, Md.; one son, George Studdard, Sherpard AFB, WichitaFalls, Tex.; a brother, George Potter, Shelby, Mont.; one sister, Mrs Leota Arendale, Olathe, and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Church. The Rev Dennis A. Sculley, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt Calvary Cemetery.

Recitation of the Rosary will be Thursday at the Larkin funeral home at the following hours; B. of I. 7:30, St Francis de Sales Altar Society 8, and friends and members of the parish, 9 p.m. The body will be at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today.

MRS. BOONE DIES TODAY AT LANSING

Mrs. Theresa Boone, 92, Lansing, died this morning at her home. She had been in failing health the past three years.

Born July 26, 1873, at Junction City, Mrs. Boone was a daughter of Henry and Mary Ann Lindberg. Shortly after her wedding to Thomas J. Boone on Aug. 15, 1892, at Junction City, Mr. and Mrs. Boone moved to Lansing. Mr. Boone died Dec. 31, 1938.

Mrs. Boone was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church, the Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Mary Grace Boone of the home; two sons, Col. J. Winfield Boone (USA-Ret.), Salt lake City, Utah, Colonel H. Boone, 3011 Shrine Park Rd., and two grandsons.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the St. Francis de Sales Church. The Rev. Francis Broderick, OSB, will officiate. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Ft. Leavenworth. The Rosary will be recited Tuesday at the Larkin Funeral Home at the following hours; Daughters of Isabella, 7:30 p.m.; friends and members of the Altar Society, 8 p.m, and the Knights of Columbus, 8:30 p.m.

The body will be at the chapel after 7 p.m. today.

Mrs. Fink's Rites Will Be Monday

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Frances Fink, 82, RR 2 Easton, who died Friday evening at St. John Hospital, will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the St Joseph of the Valley Church. The rev. Patrick Fitzgerald will officiate.

Mrs. Fink had been in failing health for six months.

Born July 8, 1874, in Ohio, she was a daughter of Aloysius and Barbara Wiesinger. She had been a resident of Leavenworth County 71 years.

On Nov. 13, 1892, in Kansas City, Kan., she was married to Peter Fink by the late Bishop I.M. Fink. Mr. Fink died in 1930.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ann Bott, RR 1, and Mrs. Mary Forge, RR 4, seven sons, Leo Fink, Easton, Peter Fink RR 4, Louis Fink, 114 W 7th, Herman Fink, 320 N. 17th, George Fink, RR 1, Henry Fink, 1119 Metropolitan and Joseph Fink, Easton; 32 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Rosaries will be recited by Daughters of Isabella at 7:30 p.m. today and by friends, Members of the parish, and the Immaculate Conception Altar Society at 8:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The body is at the chapel.

Jacob Wingender Dies Wednesday

Jacob "Jackie" T. Wingender Jr., 55, 115 Pottawatomie, died Wednesday evening at the VA Hospital, Wadsworth. He had been a patient at the hospital for the past two weeks.

He was born Feb. 5, 1911 in St. Joseph, Mo., a son of Jacob and Maggie Wingender. Mr. Wingender came to Leavenworth while still an infant.

He was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of World War I. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 55.

Surviving are one son, Robert Wingender, U.S.N., Germany, and one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Shrimplin, Norfork N.C.; his mother, Mrs Maggie Wingender, St. Joseph; one sister, Mrs. Clara Schleicher, St. Joseph, and one brother, Sam Wingender, Whiting, Kansas., and eight grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Chapel, Wadsworth. Burial will be in the National with military honors. The body will be at the Sumpter Funeral Chapel after 6 p.m. Saturday. Friends will recite the Rosary at 8 p.m. Sunday.

STELLA EDWARDS

Stella Lee Edwards, 92, Tampa, Fla., formerly of Leavenworth, died Thursday morning at Tampa.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Davis Funeral Chaperl; burial in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Mrs. Edwards was born Jan. 4, 1895 in Taylor Store, Va. She had lived in Leavenworth until January 1979, when she moved to Tampa to live with her daughter, Thelma Malinski. she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She married Vernon Clark in 1917. He preceded her in death June 1946. She then married Elzie S. Edwards in November 1948. He preceded her in death in October 1974.

Her survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Malinski, Tampa; two step-daughters, Mebel Alston, Chansse, Mo., and Crystal Sinnie, Fairfax, Va.; two brother; four sisters; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Forge Boy Is Killed, Car Crash.

Nineteen year old Herman J. Forge IV, RR4, was killed and four persons were injured in a two-car head on crash on U.S. 73 about five miles south of Leavenworth in Wyandotte County early Sunday, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

Yound Forge, who would have been 20 in less than a month, was driving north when a car driven by Thomas W. Gates, 23, Kansas City, Kan., collided head on with the Forge car to the northbound lane. Gates was alone.

Three passengers in the Forge car were admitted to St. John Hospital. Placed on the critical list with a head injury but reported slightly improved this morning was Lawrence E. Redford, 21, RR 4.

Janice R. Wacker, 20, 518 Ottawa, was in fair condition today. She underwent surgery Sunday for a knee injury.

Sandra K. Yeater, 17, 3425 Shrine Park Rd., was in good condition. She suffered a shoulder injury.

Gates was admitted to Cushing Memorial Hospital with multiple fractures and lacerations. His condition was listed as satisfactory.

Yound Forge was born in Leavenworth Oct. 2, 1947, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Forge Jr., RR 4. He was in partnership with his father in operation of their farm.

He was a 1965 graduate of Immaculata High School and had attended Donnelly College, Kansas City, Kan., for one year.

Other than his parents he is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Edward Geris, 1504 Hope, Kathy, Jane, Elaine and Shirley Forge, and four brothers, Jimmy, Gar, David and Dennis Forge, all of the home, his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Forge Sr., RR 4; his maternal grandmother, Mrs Stella Heim, 714 Osage, and one nephew.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Church, with the Rev. H??ary Heim, O.S.B. uncle of the deceased, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends and members of the parish will recite the Rosary at the Sumpter Funeral Chapel on Tuesday at 8 p.m. members of the St. Joseph Society at 7:30 p.m.

Lydia Banks Dies Thursday, Nov. 23, 1967

Mrs. Lydia H. Banks, 66, RR 4, died Thursday evening at the Cushing Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Banks had suffered a heart attack Thursday morning.

Mrs. Banks was born April 2, 1901 at Leavenworth and was a daughter of Fred A. and Elizabeth Korth Dage. She was married to Mr. Andrew T. (Tony) Banks on April 15, 1924. Mr. Banks survives her. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Besides her husband, Andrew T. (Tony) Banks, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Bibee, Bristol, Tenn., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Davis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. John Hodge, pastor of Easton Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens. The body is at Davis Funeral Chapel.
