CHARLES ZULECharles W. Zule, 82, Easton, lifetime resident of Leavenworth County, died this morning at Topeka following an illness of several years.Mr. Zule was born Dec. 31, 1887, a son of Robert and Barbara Hittle Zule. He was married to Pauline C. Linaweaver here in 1915. She died in 1947. Mr. Zule had farmed many years. He is survived by four sons, Eugene Zule, Loring: William Zule, Easton: Robert Zule, Corning, and Leo Zule, Easton: a brother, John Zule, Tampa, Fla: 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sexton Funeral Chapel. The body is at the chapel. |

from the Leavenworth Times, 22-Apr-1970 Funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. for Willard Drennon, 68, at the Parker Mortuary, Topeka. He died Tuesday at an Overbrook rest home where he had lived the past two years. Graveside service will be at 11:30 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery, west of Leavenworth, on K-92. He was born Jan. 26, 1902, at Perry and lived at Kansas City, Mo before moving to Overbrook. He was employed by Graham Truck Lines in Kansas City. Surviving is a brother, Andrew Drennon, Miami, Fla. |

from the Leavenworth Times, Thursday, 22-Apr-1970 Hayes P. Sparrow, 82, 234 3rd Ave., died Tuesday morning at the VA Center Hospital folowing in illness of several years. Mr. Sparrow was born in Wisconsin on Nov. 11, 1887, a son of Charles A. and Nellie Hayes Sparrow. The family moved to Leavenworth when he was a child, and he attended schools here and the University of Kansas. He was an Army veteran of World War I, and had retired as an engineer with the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Co. He never married. He was a member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, King Solomon Lodge No. 10 AF&AM, Leavenworth Chapter No. 2 Royal Arch Masons and Leavenworth Commandery No. 1 Knights Templar. He is survived by a nephew, E.C. Sparrow, Sacramento, Calif. and a niece. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Sexton Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery with a Masonic graveside service. The family suggests memorials to the church. The body will be at the chapel after noon Saturday. |

From Leavenworth Times May 12, 1970 PEARL SCHONHERR DIES MAY 11, 1970Mrs. Pearl Schonherr, 80, Cherokee and Riverfront, died Monday night at Cushing Memorial Hospital after an illness of two years.Mrs. Schonherr was born Oct. 18, 1889 in North Otter, Ill., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Davidson. She attended schools in Illinois, and was married to Emil Schonherr at Bentonville, Ark.., April 10, 1950. She was a member of a Holiness church in Illinois. Surviving are the husband, of the home, and three daughters, Mrs. Ann Mae Smith, 411 Olive; Mrs. Mildred Hitchcock, Freeport, Ill., and Mrs. Helen Smith, Carlinville, Ill. Time and place of the funeral will be announced by the Sexton Funeral Chapel. The body is at the chapel. (Buried at Sunset Memory Gardens) |

| The obituary of Dorothy (Hedrick) Wilk, as published in the Leavenworth Times on 22 July 1970, follows: "News has been received here of the unexpected death of Mrs. Dorothy Wilk, 60, Long Island, N.Y., Tuesday morning. She apparently suffered a heart attack while on her way to work. Mrs. Wilk was born Jan. 30, 1910 at Versailles, Mo., a daughter of Jess E. and Pearl Murphy Hedrick. Surviving, other than her father, Jess E. Hedrick, 308 Spruce, are her husband, Anthony Wilk, of the home, and a brother, Robert W. Hedrick, 111 Prospect. Funeral and burial will be Friday at Long Island." |

Before moving to Basehor in 1963 he had been employed as a office clerk in Kansas City, Mo., about 35 years. He was a member of Southgate Masonic Lodge No. 547, Kansas City. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lenis Sherman, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Hodges, Basehor; four grandsons and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday at 2A:30 p.m. at the Alden Harrington and Sons Funeral Chapel, Bonner Springs. Burial will be in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. |

Bretzman, 73, Excelsior Springs, Mo., veteran of world War I, died Thursday morning at the VA center Hospital at Wadsworth.Mr. Bretzman was born Aug. 10, 1895, in Missouri. He enlisted in the Army in St. Louis, Mo., on Sept 1, 1917, and served as a private in Battery C, 128th Field Artillery. He was discharged at Camp Funston, Kan., on May 2, 1919. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pauline Bretzman, Excelsior Springs; two brothers, Richard E. Bretzman, Afton, Mo., and Carl A Bretzman, Atlanta, Ga; two sisters, Mrs. A.H. Coerber, Webster Groves, Mo., and Mrs. Joseph Klebrisch, Kirkwood, Mo. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the VA Protestant Chapel. Burial will be in the VA Cemetery. |

Moberly, 76, who died at his home at Polo, Mo., Friday morning will be in Polo. Mr. Moberly was born Oct. 28,, 1893 AT St. Joseph Mo., a son of Mr. And Mrs. Charles O. Moberly. The family moved to Leavenworth in 1907 and lived here many years. He served in the Army from 1917-1919. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Betty Moberly, of the home; two daughters, Miss Harriett Moberly, Kansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Hazel I. Doman, Winchester; two sons, Billy E. Moberly, Kansas City, Kan., and Harry F. Moberly, Jr., Nebraska; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah McCaully, 501 1/2 N. 4th. Mrs. Lula Lewandowski, 318 1/2 Delaware, and Mrs. Vera Wilk, 916 Miami; a brother, Edgar C. Moberly, Kansas City, Kan. and 13 grandchildren." |

Taken from the Leavenworth Times Aug. 10, 1970 by Sue Rush Korth Dies August 5, 1970The funeral for William E. Korth, 41, Atchison, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Sexton Funeral Chapel. He died Thursday night in an auto accident on Cody Hill on U.S. 73.Burial will be in the Fr. Leavenworth National Cemetery. The body is at the chapel. A HEAD-ON CRASH KILLS BILL KORTHWilliam E. Korth, 41, Atchison, formerly of Leavenworth was killed Thursday night in a head on collision on U.S. 73 six miles northwest of Leavenworth and Bernice Casperson, RR 2 Easton, was hospitalized with serious injuries suffer in the accident.Deputy Sheriff Robert Dougherty said the cars collide while rounding the curve on Cody Hill. FOLLOWING HUSBAND Mrs. Casperson's husband, SFC (Ret.) Arthur Casperson told Dougherty his wife was following a car he was driving. He said he saw Korth's car approach the curve near the center of the road. Shortly after rounding the curve, Casperson stated, he noticed his wife's car was no longer following him, so he turned around. He returned to the curve and discovered the accident. Mrs. Casperson was taken by ambulance to Munson Army Hospital where she was place on the seriously ill list this morning. She suffered lacerations on her forehead, scalp, lips, left elbow and both knees. PRONOUNCED DEADKorth was taken to Cushing Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.He was born in Leavenworth Sept. 2, 1928, the son of Fred G. and Karoline Theisinger Korth. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Leavenworth High School, and was a veteran of Korean War. He was a custodial officer at Kansas State Penitentiary. Korth is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Shirley Stone, Topeka; Mrs. Vera Rheinick, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Geraldine King, Lakewood, N.M.; and Mrs. Florence Hansen, Brooklyn, N.Y. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Sexton Funeral Chapel. |

Stoneburner, 87, a resident of the Golden Age Lodge who died there Sunday morning, will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Sexton Funeral ChapelMrs. Stoneburner was born south of Lansing in Leavenworth County on Nov. 24, 1882. She attended rural schools and was married to Benjamin Stoneburner Aug. 11, 1915 at Lansing. Mr. Stoneburner, a flour miller many years, died Oct 12, 1960. Mrs. Stoneburner's survivors live in Oklahoma. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. The body is at the chapel. |

Surviving are the widow of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Heath, 112 Allen, and Mrs. Virginia Butzin, 508 S. 10th; a son, Herman E. Lebbert, 600 S 6th; a brother, Hugo Lebbert, Topeka; and three grandchildren. Funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church. A prayer service will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. |

She had been in failing health several months.Mrs. Schalipp was born Sept. 19, 1884, in Platte County, Mo., a daughter of William and Elizabeth Knots Ode. She was married to William Schalipp at Platte City, Mo., on Dec. 23, 19904. He died March 30, 1954. Mrs. Schalipp was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Olga E. Tollner, of the home; a son, Brock E. Schalipp, 2200 S. 4th; three sisters. Mrs. Minnie O'Rourke, Mrs. Katherine Ohlhausen and Mrs. Eloise Duncan, all of Weston; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 10:15 a.m. at the david Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery. |
