From Leavenworth Times January 4, 1971, Death date January 2, 1971, by Sue Rush MARTHA KNAPPA graveside service for a Leavenworth native, Mrs. Martha A. Knapp, 78, who died Saturday in a Sarasota, Fla., nursing home, will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Muncie Cemetery.She was married to Everett G. Knapp at Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 7, 1906. He died July 7, 1963. Mrs. Knapp moved to Sarasota in 1965. She was a Lutheran. Surviving her are a son, Everett G. Knapp II, Osprey, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Anna Pike, Kansas City, Mo.; and a grandson, Everett G. Knapp III, Bethel. The body is at the Davis Funeral Chapel. |

from Leavenworth Times MRS. MARTHA MARIE KORTH, 86, 923 Pawnee, lifelong Leavenworth County resident, died early today, January 6, 1971, at the County Home. She had been in failing health several months. Mrs. korth was born here June 9, 1884, a daughter of Frederick C. and Amelia Holtzheater Butzin. She attended local schools and was married here to Otto Korth in 1903. He died May 18, 1951. Mrs. Korth was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Asbury, 1129 Spruce, Mrs. Mervyn Donnell, 925 Pawnee, and Mrs. Freda Woodward, of the home; a son, Ernest Korth, 1294 Randolph; two brothers, Frank Butzin and Frederick W. Butzin, 322 Garland; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Sexton Funeral chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. The body will be at the chapel after noon Thursday. |

From the Leavenworth Times, 10 Jan 1971 "William T. McCaully, 81, 501 1/2 N. 4th, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John Hospital late Saturday afternoon. Mr. McCaully was born here June 30, 1889, a son of Thomas and Margaret Ann McCaully. He and Beulah Moberly were married here Nov. 14, 1913. For many years he was employed at the former Meyer Coal Co., here. Survivors include his widow of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Allen, 208 Miami, and Mrs. Ruth Chapman, 1806 S. 4th; Mrs. Elizabeth Sieg, Ozark, Mo., Mrs. Dorothy L. Arvizn, Uniontown, Ky., and Mrs. Georgette Pyles, DeKalb, Mo.; two sons, Charles E. McCaully, 307 Lawrence Ave., and Alonzo McCaully, 936 Spruce; a brother, Henry McCaully, Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Georgette Sutcliffe, Kansas City, Mo.; and 33 grandchildren. The body is at the Larkin Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced later." |

Herman J. FinkHerman J. Fink, 74, 320 N. 17th., died Saturday. He was born Feb. 24, 1897 at Lowemont a son of Peter and Mary Weisinger Fink.He was married to Bertha E. Schrick Jan. 27, 1919. He was a veteran of World War I and spent his lifetime farming in the Lowemont and Springdale areas. He retired in 1965. He was a member of Barracks 1 of World War I veterans and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Survivors include his widow of the home; two daughters, Miss Mildren I Fink, Kansas City, Mo., and Miss Rita M. Fink of the home, four sons, William H. Fink, Lakeview and Eisenhower Road, Herman E. Fink and Leonard B. Fink, both of San Bernardino, Calif. and Raphael E. Fink, Kearney, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs Anna Bott, RR 1, and Mrs. Mary Forge, RR 4, five brothers, Peter Fink, RR 4; Louis Fink, 122 South 16th; George fink, RR 1; Henry Fink, 1119 Metropolitan, and Joseph Fink, Easton; ten grand-children and three great-grand-children. Funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Sumpter Funeral Chapel by the Daughter of Isabella and at 8 p.m. by friends and members of the parish. The body is at Sumpter. |

Forge II, 14, died Monday following an auto accident.He was born May 22, 1956, in Leavenworth, a son of Cyril T. and Theresa Ann Brick Forge. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Grade School and a freshman at Immaculata High School. He was a member of St. Joseph Carmelite Church. Surviving are his parents of the home on RR 4, three sisters, Joan Marie, Janet Marie, and Julie Ann Forge, and a brother, Keith A. Forge, all of the home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Burick, 606 Pawnee, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Forge, 1016 Kickapoo. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at the Sumpter Funeral Chapel Wednesday at 8 p.m. by friends and members of the parish. The body will be at the chapel after 6 p.m. today. |

W.L. RedmonWilliam L. Redmon, 72, 524 Elizabeth, died Thursday at the VA Center Hospital following an extended illness.He was born Aug. 8, 1898 at Murfreesboro, Tenn., a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Andrew Redmon. He attended schools there and joined the Army in 1917. He was a former employee of the Leavenworth Times, and a nurse's aide at Munson Army Hospital and at the VA Hospital. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Irma Redmon, of the home; two sons, Roudolph and Adolph Redmon, both of Chicago, Ill; and two brothers. Robert Redmon, Pasadena, Calilf. and Walter Redmon, Louisville, Ky. Time and place of the funeral will be announced by Holmes and Son Funeral Home. The body is at the funeral home. |

Mrs. SommersMrs. Laurette A. Sommers, 68, 908 S. 5th, wife of Henry A. "Bud" Sommers, Hollywood Theater manager, died the morning at Cushing Memorial Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital Thursday after suffering an apparent heart attack.Born at Sheldon, Iowa, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David A. Miller. She attended Iowa schools and was an Iowa State Teadchers College graduate. She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception Philomathean Club for more than 20 years, and the Women's Golf Association at the Leavenworth Country Club. An active member of the Leavenworth Historical Society, she had conducted many tours at the museum. Surviving other than her husband, of the home, are a son, David H. Sommers, Taipei, Taiwan; a sister, Mrs. Cecile Houlihan, Ottumwa, Iowa; a brother, Thomas Miller, San Gabriel, Calif., and two grandchildren. Time and place of the funeral will be announced by the Sexton Funeral Chapel. |

from the Leavenworth Times, June 11, 1971. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Coryell, 85, 629 Grand Ave., a resident of the Golden Age Lodge, died Wednesday at Cushing Memorial Hospital. She was born in Leavenworth County on april 28, 1885, a daughter of Willis and Fanny Pouppirt Hicks. She attended public schools here and in 1923 was married to Martin Coryell. He died in 1937. Mrs. Coryell was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving are a duaghter, Mrs. Mary Neaves, 629 Grand Ave.; two brothers, Joseph Hicks and Henry Hicks, RR 4; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Grayson, RR 4, and Mrs. Daisy Pace, 1125 Newman; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the Sextion Funeral Chapel with burial in the National cemetery, Ft. Leavenworth. |

The obituary of Robert Wilk, as published in the Leavenworth Times on 8 July 1971, follows: "Robert D. Wilk, 39, 1808 Seneca, died Wednesday at the VA Center Hospital here following an illness of several months. A Leavenworth native, Mr. Wilk was born April 15, 1932, a son of Paul and Vera Moberly Wilk. He was married to the former Eileen Noll and was employed at the Fort Leavenworth Field Printing Plant. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was serving as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop No. 167 at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the St. Joseph Society and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 55. Surviving other than the widow, two sons, Raymond and Kenneth Wilk, and a daughter, Theresa Wilk, all of the home, and his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Paul Wilk, and a brother, Wayne Wilk, all of 916 Miami; three other brothers, Richard Wilk, 1900 S. Broadway, Gary Wilk, 716 Olive, and Phillip Wilk, San Diego, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Paula Wickizer, 1312 Pawnee, and Mrs. Sandra Loar, Omaha, Neb. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church. Rosaries will be recited at the Sumpter Funeral Chapel Sunday, at 7:30 p.m. by friends and parish members, and 8 p.m. by the St. Joseph Society. Burial will be in the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery. The body will be at the chapel after noon Saturday." |

Lois, Lansing, died Monday morning at Eureka Springs, Ark.She was born at Basehor, Dec. 25, 1885, a daughter of Joseph and Ellen Antoni. She lived her entire life in the Basehor and Lansing area, and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Lansing. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Margaret Cotter, Smithville, Mo., Mrs. Helen Johnson, of the home, Mrs. Mary Griffis, Merrit Island, Fla., Mrs. Jean Wadley, Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Edna Curry, Eagle Rock, Mo.; a son, Joseph Schmitt, Shawnee; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the church. A Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at the Larkin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. |
