reprinted from the Leavenworth Times, Friday, 27-Aug-1971. Preston HaleFuneral for Preston Hale, 82, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the central Congregational Church in Topeka, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery there.Mr. Hale died Thursday at a Topeka hospital. He was active in many civic affairs at Topeka and served as city park commissioner. Prior to that he served as county agricultural agent in Chase, Leavenworth and Shawnee counties. He moved to Topeka in 1934. He was a native of Illinoise and received his degree from kansas Satate University in 1916. Surviving are his widow. Mrs. Anna Hale of the home; a daughter, Mrs. C.K. Austin, Overland Park; 3 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Topeka, is in charge of arrangements. |

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. kathryn Hodges of the home; four grandsons and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Alden harrington Chapel at Bonner Springs and burial will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park. |

from the Leavenworth Times, Thursday, April 27, 1972, microfilm #L1390, KSHS.Katie MussettKaie(sic) Mussett, RR 4, lifelong resident of Kickapoo Township, died Wednesday at Cushing Memorial Hospital following an illness of the past six months.Mrs. Mussett was born at Oak Mills Feb 16, 1886, the daughter of Hiram and elizabeth Logan dougan. Her father was postmaster at Kickapoo and she helped in the distribution of mail while attending rural schools. She was married to Edgar Mussett at Kickapoo on Feb. 16, 1916. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966. She was a member of the Kickapoo Extension Homemakers Unit and the First United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband of the home; two sons, Arthur T. Mussett, Brussels, Belgium, and Hiram C. Mussett, Littleton, Colo., five grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. The funeral will be saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Burial in Kickapoo Memorial Cemetery. |

Main, Lansing, died Wednesday at St. John Hospital.Mrs. Martz was born Jan. 5, 1904, at Great Falls, Mont., the daughter of John and Faye Weist Matere. On April 15, 1926, she was married to Elmer A. Martz. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church at Lansing, the altar Society and the Golden Age Club. Surviving are her husband and a son, Robert Lee Martz, both of the home; and a brother, Francis J. Matere, 921 1/2 10th Ave. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. |

George FinkGeorge Fink, 71, RR 1, was found dead Monday at his homeHe was born in Leavenworth County, the son of Peter and Mary Weisinger Fink. He was a farmer. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ann Bott, RR 1, and Mrs Mary Forge, RR 4, and four brothers, Peter Fink, RR 4, Louis Fink, 122 S. 16th; Henry Fink, 1119 Metropolitan, and Joseph Fink, RR 2 Easton. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

from Leavenworth Times FRANK W. BUTZIN, 85, 1127 Sherman St., a life long resident of Leavenworth and a cabinetmaker, died Friday, June 16, 1972. He had been in failing health several years. He was born in Leavenworth on Sept. 12, 1886, the son of Frederick and Amelia Holtzheater Butzin. He attended local schools. He was married to Sarah Pratt in Leavenworth in 1920. Mrs. Butzin died in 1944. He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist and Hiram Lodge, No 68, AF & AM. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Helen Rogers, Columbus, Ga; and Mrs. Elsie Reeves, Alexandria, La.; two sons, Fred H. Butzin, of the home, and Carl Butzin, Shreveport, La; a brother William Butzin, 322 Garland; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sexton Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. the body will be at the chapel this evening. The family suggests memorials to Cushing Memorial Hospital. |

He had been in failing health the past two years.He was born Dec. 24, 1896, at Lansing, the son of Chris and Laura Klingler Rodenburg. He was a retired farmer and produce man. He was married to Miss Goldie Hargreaves at Leavenworth on Jan. 1, 1919. Survivors include his widow of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Ed Grape, RR 1 Atchison and Mrs. Harold Hathaway, RR 4; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Crnett, 513 Arch and Mrs. John Denney, 808 Denney Lane; a brother, Fred Rodenburg, Yakima, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery |

The obituary of Lula Moberly Lewandowski, as published in the Leavenworth Kansas Times on 24 Nov 1972, follows: "Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Casimir Catholic Church for Mrs. Lula Lewandowski of 443 Utah who died Wednesday in St. John Hospital. Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in the Larkin Funeral home. She was born at St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Armalissa Moberly. She had been a resident of Leavenworth the past 64 years. On Oct 4, 1913, she was married to Ted M. Lewandowski Sr. He died in 1956. She was a member of the St. Casimir Church, the VFW Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Wanda Lea Veusser of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Mrs. Alberta Fleshman and Mrs. Virginia Fedak, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sons, Charles of Cordova, Cal.; Sherman of Long Beach, Calif.; and Joseph of 443 Utah; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah McCaully of 318 1/2 Delaware and Mrs. Vera Wilk of 908 Miami; a brother, Edgar Moberly of Kansas City, Kan.; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren." |

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Casimir Church for John "Turk" Bietka, 77 formerly of 2108 S. 5th, who died Tuesday in the County Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. He was born Feb. 26, 1895, the son of Vincent and Veronica Bietka. He was a retired construction worker, a member of St. Casimir Church and St. Hedwig Society. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Dozell of Kansas City, Kan; two brothers, Vincent of 536 Michigan and Alex of Independence, Mo. Friends may call after noon on Thursday at the Larkin Funeral Home. |
