The obituary of Olevia Duck Wilk, as published in the Leavenworth Kansas Times on 29 Sept 1974, follows: "Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel at 5th and Oak for Mrs. Olevia Wilk, 63, of 605 Oak, who died early Saturday at her home. She had been in ill health for several months. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Mrs. Wilk was born July 5, 1911, at Dearborn, Mo., a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Samuel Duck. The family came to Leavenworth when she was a child and she attended the local public schools. She and Albert Wilk were married here on April 30, 1932. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. Other than the widower, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Sarah Hoffman, both of the home. Friends may call at the chapel." |

Taken from the Leavenworth Times October 10, 1974ELZIE EDWARDSFuneral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Belden Sexton Sumpter Funeral Chapel Fifth and Oak, for Elzie "Ed" Edwards, 80, 1321 Grand Ave., who died Wednesday in Cushing Memorial Hospital.He was born March 20, 1894, at Webb City, Mo., and was the son of William S. and Erminnie Lake Edwards. He moved to Leavenworth in 1928. Mr. Edwards was superintendent of the laundry at the Kansas State Prison for 10 years and was an auto salesman until he retired in 1965. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. He married Stella Oyler Clark on Nov. 8, 1948 at Bentonville, Ark. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Harold Edwards, Gravois Mills, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. William Alston, New Orleans, La., and Mrs. William Finnie, Fairfax, Va.; two brothers, Cliff Edwards and Malhon Edwards, both of Erie, Kan.; a sister Almeda Nesbit., Red Wood City, Calif.; two step-daughters, Theda Timberlake and Thelma Malinski, both of Columbus, Ga.; a step-son, Donald Clark, Lansing; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great grandchildren. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the chapel. |
Taken from the Leavenworth Times November 7, 1974 Fred RodenburgFred J. Rodenburg, Sr. 80, RR 4, Yakima, Calif., died Friday in a Yakima convalescent home.He was born Sept. 18, 1894 at Leavenworth. He married Laura Fay Said at Leavenworth. They moved to Yakima Valley from Paradise, Calif. For the past 28 years they had lived in the Gromore, Calif., area where Mr. Rodenburg was a rancher. He was a World War I veteran and served in the Army. He was a member of the Summitview Assembly of God Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his widow; a son, Fred Rodenburg Jr., Yakima; a daughter, Mrs. Albert Redwine, Moses Lake, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. John Denney, 806 Denney Lane, and Mrs. Laura Cornett, 513 Arch; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. |

The obituary of Beverly Wilk, as published in the Leavenworth Kansas Times on 17 Dec 1974, follows: "The funeral for Mrs. Beverly Jean Wilk, 37, San Diego, Calif. Who died Saturday in the Mercy Hospital, San Diego, was today at San Diego. Mrs. Wilk had been hospitalized since Nov 5. She suffered pneumonia after brain surgery which caused her to lapse into a coma from which she never regained consciousness. She was born at Pratt April 19 1937, and was the daughter of William and Pauline Russell. The family moved to California when she was a small child. She married Phillip Gerald Wilk, formerly of Leavenworth, on Feb. 13, 1965. He survives. Other survivors include two children, Karl and Shannon Elizabeth, both of the home; her parents, a brother, W. L. Russell, and her grandparents, all of San Diego, and her mother and father-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. Paul Wilk, 1425 Olive." |

From Leavenworth Times 1-27-1975 EMIL SCHONERR dies January 26, 1975Emil "Shorty" Schonerr, 79, Riverside and Cherokee, died Sunday in St. John Hospital.He was born March 10, 1895, in Germany, the son of August and Augusta Fischer Schonerr. He lived most of his life at Leavenworth. He was employed at Helmer Manufacturing Company, Dresser Sand Company and the Bell Laundry. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Mary L. Mays, Raymore, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Martha Carter, 116 Olive; four grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, and a step-granddaughter. The funeral arrangements will be announced by Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, Fifth and Oak. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. |

Forge Sr., 83, 1016 Kickapoo, died today at Winchester.He was born Oct. 22, 1891, in Leavenworth County and had lived here all his life. He was the son of John and Mary Kelly Forge. He retired from Saint Mary College in 1960. He married Agnes S. Doman on June 16, 1925. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Cyril T. Forge, RR 4, Date B. Forge, Hermitage, Mo., and Thomas J. Forge Jr., St. Mary's; three daughters, Mrs. Joan Erffmeyer, Florissant, Mo., Mrs. Audrey A. Fitzgerald, Granada Hill, Calif., and Mrs. Agnes A. Clauser, 236 Garland; four brothers, John Forge RR4, Louis Forge, RR 4, Henry Forge, RR 4 and William Forge, RR 4; and 21 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The parish wake service will be a 8 p.m. Thursday in the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, 518 Shawnee. |

Fink, 73, who died today in St. John Hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.Mrs. Fink was born Feb, 1902, in Leavenworth County, the daughter of Ed and Rose Payeur Tarry. She was a lifelong resident of Leavenworth County. She was married to Leo L. Fink in April 1922 at St. Joseph of the Valley Church. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and its Altar Society and had been a member of the Altar Society of St. Joseph of the Valley Church for 50 years. Survivors include three sons, Gerald L. Fink, RR 3, Albert P. Fink, 219 Vilas, and Merlin J. Fink, Atchison; four daughters, Evelyn Linaweaver, RR 3, Regina L. Aaron, 901 N. 11th, Eileen R. Wilk, 1400 Delaware, and Angela Forge, Manhattan; a brother, Clement Trapp (Tarry), Atchison; 29 grand-children and four great-grandchildren. The rosary will be recited by friends and members of the parish at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, 518 Shawnee. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today. |

Burial will be in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. She died Wednesday in the Cushing Memorial Hospital. She was born at Leavenworth April 4, 1891, the daughter of Frank and Mary Edgell HARRISON. She was married to Hugh PARSONS. He died July 13, 1943. She was a member of the Sunshine Group of the United Methodist Women and the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include four sons, Sherwood PARSONSof Greenwood, Mo., Floyd PARSONS of 1216 Pennsylvania, Harley J. PARSONS, of the home, and William H. PARSONS, Ft. Meade, Md.; three daughters Mrs. Mary Jo SHIMKE of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Patricia HART of the home, and Mrs. Verna Lee MONTGOMERY, Ventura, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Ida HERRIN, Roeland Park, and Miss Minnie HARRSION and Mrs. Mathilda LICHTE, both of 1921 Miami; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Matilda Mae Dutton Knight Saxer (died May 6, 1975) Mrs. Matilda Mae Saxer, 91, Formerly of 1224 Spruce, died Tuesday at Golden Age Lodge. She was born January 5, 1884, in Moberly, Missouri, and had lived in Leavenworth the past 60 years. Her husband, M. Joseph Saxer, Died October 3, 1973. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Leavenworth. She is survived by one son, Huland Raymond Knight, Kansas City, Missouri; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Vargas, 924 Miami; one sister. Mrs. Mary Denton, Norwood, Missouri; and four grand children. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, at Belden-Sexer-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, 5th and Oak. Burial will be in Mount Muncie Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 5 pm today. |

Audrey Scherer Mrs. Audrey M. Scherer, 55. 316 N. Third, died this morning in Cushing Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted Tuesday. She had been in failing health the past five years. She was born Dec. 24, 1919, at Leavenworth, the daughter of Henry and Grace Scherer. She worked at Bell Laundry for 36 years. Survivors include a brother, William Scherer, 231 Osage; and three sisters, Mrs. Bonnylin Denton, Enid, Okla., Mrs. Mildred Filbert, California, and Mrs. Ethel Bishop, Wichita. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Friends may call at the Davis Funeral Chapel after 5 p.m. Thursday. |
