JACK LOHMAN

Jack W. Lohman, Leavenworth, died Wednesday, may 28 1997, at the Providence Medical Center, KC, Kansas. He was 89.

He was born in Leavenworth County on June 16, 1907, the son of Henry John and Flora Athey Lohman.

Mr. Lohman worked at Campbell's Grocery in Lansing from 1923 to 19466. He also owned grocery stores in Leavenworth in the early 1950's. He had worked at the Leavenworth National Bank from 1955 until retirement in 1972.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and had served the church by holding several offices earlier in life.

He was married 47 years to Christine W. Moser. She died in 1973. He then married Virginia Farrell. She died in 1993.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol R. Wind, Lansing; a son, the Rev. John R. Lohman, Rockwell City, Iowa; a stepson, Mike Farrell, Leavenworth; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home

. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Mount Muncie Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Dakota Boys' Ranch.

Gertrude Forge

Gertrude A. Forge, Leavenworth, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at the Leavenworth County Infirmary. She was 87.

She was born Feb. 7, 1910, in Atchison, the daughter of Bernard D. Francis and Winnie Loretta Finegan Lee.

Mrs. Forge attended Saint Mary College at the age of 51 and graduated with her teaching degree at the age of 55. She had been a teacher at St. Teresa School in Parkville, Mo., for 20 years until she retired in 1975. After retirement, she tutored children in reading until illness forced her to stop. Teaching was her life, especially teaching reading.

She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church.

She married Henry J. Forge on June 22, 1932, in Leavenworth. He died Nov. 11, 1976.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Maureen Gertrude Forge; two brothers, Louis and Victor Lee; and one sister, Geraldine Lee.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernadette Ann Forge, Topeka, and Mary Winifred Jackson, Leavenworth; two sons, Richard J. Forge, Leavenworth, and Henry Lee Forge, Kansas City, Kan.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Belden Sexton Sumpter Funeral Chapel where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church. The Rev. Terrence Cyr, O. Carm., will officiate. Burial will follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Leavenworth County Catholic schools.

DOROTHY E.ZULE, Easton, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at her home. She suffered from cancer. She was 67.
She was born June 30, 1930, the daughter of Aloysius and Barbara Kremer Capesius.
Mrs. Zule grew up in the Easton area and attended Easton and Winchester schools. She graduated from Winchester High School in 1947 and attended Saint Mary's College in Leavenworth. She taught grade school in the rural area for a short time.
She was a homemaker and resided in the Easton area most of her married life. She was actively involved in the family dairy business.
She was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish, Easton. She was also a member of the Millwood homemakers Unit.
She married William Zule on may 18, 1948, at St. Lawrence Church. He survives at the home.
Other survivors include one daughter, Diane Watkins, Easton; three sons, Dean Zule, Leavenworth, and David and Greg Zule, both of Easton,12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Yvonne Zule; two brothers, Leon Capesius and Gary Capesius; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel where a rosary will be recited at 6;30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Lawrence Church, Easton. Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Leavenworth.

WILLIAM ZULE

William C. Zule, Easton, died Thursday, Oct. 9,1997 at Cushing Memorial hospital. He was 73.
He was born March 12, 1924, in Leavenworth County, the son of Charles W. and Pauline Linaweaver Zule.
Mr Zule grew up in the McLouth area and attended a one-room schoolhouse. Early in his life, he worked as a trucker and milk hauler. He was a lifelong farmer and was engaged in dairy faring in the Easton community since 1949.
He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Easton.
He married Dorothy E. Capesuis on May 18, 1948, at St. Lawrence Church in Easton. She preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 1997.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Zule, and a granddaughter
. Survivors include one daughter, Diane Watkins, Easton; three sons, Dean, David and Greg Zule, all of Easton; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Easton. Burial will follow at the St. Lawrence Cemetery

EDWARD SEARLES III

Edward C. Searles III, Leavenworth died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was 49.

He was born March 6, 1948, at Leavenworth, the son of Edward C. II and Verneil M. Searles.

Mr. Searles graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1966. He attended Baker University and worked with his father in the family owned insurance and real estate business.

Survivors include his father, Edward C. Searles II, Leavenworth; four sisters, Charneil M. Swenson, Lawrence, Sunday J. Ahrling, Chicago, Tracy K. Searles, St. Louis, and Kimberly A. Searles-Young, Leavenworth; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verneil M. Searles, June 28, 1994; and one brother, Steven Searles, 1960.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Howard Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in the Easton Cemetery.

JUNE E. MOORE, formerly of Leavenworth, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at Clairmont Nursing Center in Tyler, Texas. She was 84.

She was born April 23, 1913, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Butzin Wait.

She married Howard Moore and he preceded her in death in 1989. They had lived in Enid, Okla. for 30 years.

She was a member of the church of Christ in Enid.

Survivors include three sons, Howard E. Moore, Tyler, Texas; Roy E. Moore, Burleson, Texas; and Guy A. Moore, Portland, Ore.; one brother, Francis Wait, Decatur, Ga.; and 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Hobbs

Edward C. Searles II, Leavenworth, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Cushing Hospital. He was 78.

He was born May 5, 1919, at Easton, the son of Edward C. and Birdie M. Connelly Searles.

Mr. Searles served in the Navy during World War II. Following his fathers death, he took over the insurance and real estate business that had been in the family since 1906. He owned and operated the E.C. Searles Insurance Agency since 1956 and retired in 1986. Up until his death, he still handled life, health and crop insurance.

He was a member of the Lions Club for many years; a 50 year member and past master of the Masonic Lodge No. 45, Easton; past member of the A.U.S.A.; past member of the Leavenworth Country Club; one of the oldest members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having been a member since 1946; and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He married Verneil Williams on June 8, 1940, at Platte City. She died June 28, 1994.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Edward C. Searles III, Nov. 19, 1997, and Steven M. Searles, 1960; and one sister, Lucy B. Smith.

Survivors include four daughters, Charneil M. Swenson, Lawrence, Sunday J. Ahrling, Chicago, Tracy K. Searles, St. Louis, and Kimberly A Searles-Young, Leavenworth; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

CHRIS L. MORITZ, of Lansing died Friday, April 3, 1998, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He was 50.

He was born Nov. 12, 1947 in Salina, the son of Theodore and Maxine Scritchfield Moritz, who preceded him in death.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1967. He was employed by Betty's Trucking Co. of DeSoto.

He married Terri Fink on April 24, 1973 in Lansing. She survives at home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jill Mortiz, and four sons, Jeffery, Justin, Jason and Joshua Mortiz, all of Lansing.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 4 p.m. Sunday, with a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday at the elden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, with Father Michael Stubbs officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Dream Factory.

Henry Fink

Henry R. Fink, Leavenworth, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Saint John Hospital. He was 93.

He was born Nov. 3, 1904, in Leavenworth County, the son of Peter and Mary Wiesinger Fink.

Mr. Fink was a self-employed farmer for many years and worked for a time for Kickapoo Township. He also worked for the Lansing State Prison and retired from there.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

He married Elizabeth "Lena" Flora on April 14, 1937, at St. Joseph of the Valley Church. She died in 1991.

He was also preceded death by two infant children, Henry Joseph Fink and Elizabeth Louise fink; nine brothers, Peter Fink, Leo Fink, Herman Fink, Ernest Fink, George Fink, Louis Fink, Joe Fink, Albert Fink and Alis Fink; and two sisters, Anna Vott and Mary Forge.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Vistitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Fergus Licktieg, O. Carm., will officiate. Burial will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph of the Valley Church.

RITA PAULENE SPINDLER, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at her Leavenworth home. She was 70.
She was born July 9, 1928, in Stockton, the daughter of John and Pauline Benge.
She attended schools in Leavenworth and graduated from Leavenworth High. She worked as a tax preparer and taught tax school at H & R Block, retiring after 14 years of service.
Mrs. Spindler had been a member of the Leavenworth Coin Club, Leavenworth County Genealogical Society and the Girl Scouts.
She married Russell A. Spindler on July 22, 1949, in Leavenworth. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Cheryl D. Smith, Leavenworth, Linda R. O'Brien, Wesfield, Wis., and Dr. Jayna L. Spindler, Atlanta, Ga.; a son James Marc Spindler, Wetmore, Colo., a brother, James F. Benge; two sisters, Doris Blockburger and Lois Benge; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren
. She is preceded in death by a grandson and a granddaughter. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Belden-Seston-Sumpter Funeral Chapel.
Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, with the Rev. Mary Jackson officiating.
Memorial contributins may be given to the Hospice of Leavenworth.
