Mary Edwards Limpus

She attended Lansing Schools and graduated from Lansing High School.

She worked for Hallmark Cards and retired as a supervisor in 1973 after 25 years.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Leavenworth, and was active serving on the Board of Social Concerns and the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Lansing Community Club and the Lansing Historical Society.

She married Harold Edwards on July 23, 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1979. She then married L. R. "Bud" Limpus in September of 1980, he died in 1983.

She is survived by a daughter Sharon Fitch and son-in-law Jack Fitch of Lansing, Ks., 2 stepchildren Sheila Stebbins, Olathe, Ks, and Gary Limpus, Blue Spring, Mo. Two grandchildren Jill Blank, Lansing, Ks and Jeff Fitch, Olathe, Ks. Four great grandchildren Tyler, Trevor, Zachary and Halie.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Cies, Ann Atchison, Christine Lohman, Burretta Kierns and one brother Chris Moser.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. David Hall officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are requested to the Trinity Lutheran Church, St. John Hospice or the Lansing Historical Society.

Joseph L. "Joe" Bietka, Leavenworth, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at North Kansas City Hospital. He was 67
He was born Now. 4, 1931, in Leavenworth, the son of Joseph A. and Bernetta Bartlett Bietka
He served four years in the Navy, serving as a gunner on the USS Yorktown from 1952-56. He then was employed at Kansas Power and Light and retired as a gas foreman in 1989, after 32 years.
He was a member of the Eagles No. 55, and the American Legion.
He was a member of the Church of the Open Door.
He married Nora E. Elliott June 25, 1961, at the Church of the Open Door in Leavenworth. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Joe Bietka, Leavenworth; and a sister, Maurine Jackson, Leavenworth.
Friends may call at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Sunday with a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. David L. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery.

Loyce Johnson dies April 11, 1999

He was born September 18, 1920, in Mapleton, the son of Paul B. and Hazel M. Amer Johnson.

He married Eileen M. Mitchum on June 8, 1946, in Nevada, Mo. She survives of the home.

He worked as a sheriff's deputy in Leavenworth County. He was a telephone installer at Fort Leavenworth until he retired.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Hancock Masonic Lodge at Fort Leavenworth. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge in Nevada, Mo., and was a former member of the Scottish Rite and the Abdullah Shrine.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jerre Warrington, Newport News, Va.; a brother, Robert Mitchum, Greensburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lyle Johnson.

A memorial service will be on 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the First Christian Church.

There will be no visitation.

The Davis Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Shrine for Crippled Children, or the First Christian Church. (he is buried at the Leavenworth National Cemetery on 5 Hi-way)

JACQULINE G. "Jackie" HOWARD, Easton, died Sunday, Sept, 12, 1999, at Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth. She was 37.
She was born Feb. 6, 1962, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Leo and Nancy Lawrence Wagner.
She attended Easton Schools and Pleasant Ridge High School, where she was active in sports. She graduated in 1980. She was employed at Armed Forces Insurance Co. in Leavenworth, as a customer service representative in the marketing department.
She was active in her church, the St. Lawrence Church of Easton, as a member, and as a member of the church choir. She was a coach of her daughters's softball and basketball teams.
She married William "Bill" Howard, Feb. 21, 1981, at the St. Lawrence Church in Easton. He survives at the home.
She was also survied by a son, Blake W. Howard, and a daugher, Alison N. Howard, both of the home; her parents, Duane and Nancy Reed, Easton; a brother John D. Wagner, Easton; a stepbrother, Wes Reed, Easton; four sisters, Karen J. Logan, Easton, Linda Biever, Leavenworth, Vickie L. Pierron, Easton, and Barbara Rush, Lansing; and two step-sisters, Jackie Thompson, Leavenworth and Kristina Wells, Effingham.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Wagner, in 1964.
Friends may call at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel after 3 p.m. Wednesday, with a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. A Parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Church, Easton, with the Rev. David Rabe officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Eugene F. Beying, Easton, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at his home. He was 82.

Mr. Beying was born May 19, 1917, in Easton, The son of Peter and Anna Nyhart Beying. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Easton. He was a former member of the church council and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 818.

He served on the Easton school boards No. 72 and No. 449, served on Farm Bureau Board, served on the Leavenworth County Conservation District Board and was a charter member of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Easton Lions Club. He was self-employed in agriculture until his retirement.

He married Ceilia Wagner June 11, 1941, at St. Lawrence Church, Easton. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Virginia Mowery, Donna Crook and Linda Land, all of Easton; two sons, Robert and Lawrence Beying, both of Easton; three sisters, Nina Schrick, Nortonville, Ina Uhlrich, McLouth; Mildres Bowers, Cowgill, Mo; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Noll.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the St. Lawrence Church, Easton, with a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. today at the church, where friends may call after 3 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. David Rabe and the Rev. Keith Lunsford co-celebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Lawrence Church Cemetery.

Marie M. Hollingshead, Lansing, died Monday, May 22, 2000 at her home. She was 81.

She was born on March 14, 1919 at Moran, Kansas, the daughter of William and Ann Eunice (Field) Gwillim.

Marie married Al Hollingshead on July 23, 1947 in Leavenworth. He survives of the home.

She attended schools at Pleasant Prairie Country school, and graduated from La Harpe High School, in 1937, La Harpe, Kansas. After her schooling she worked as a comptomer operator for 2 years in Manhattan, KS and Wichita, KS, and later went to work for Standard Oil Company, also of Wichita, KS. In 1944 she joined the United States Navy and worked as a keypunch operator stationed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Naval Aviation Supply Depot. After 2 years in the military, she went to work for Caldwell Heavy Equipment, of Wichita, KS, then she moved to Leavenworth and went to work for the VA Medical Center as a nurses aide, for 38 years, retiring in 1982.

Mrs. Hollingshead was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Leavenworth for most of her life, she was also a member of the Church's Sarah Circle group and she especially loved going to bible study classes at the Church. She enjoyed playing cards at the Salvation Army, reading and traveling all over the world, visiting friends and family.

Mrs. Hollingshead is survived by her husband, one son: William Hollingshead, Silver Lake, Kansas, one daughter: Mary Burdick, Ashaway, Rhode Island, five sisters: Ruby Brann, Lawrence, Kansas, Helen Ard, Wichita, Kansas, Betty Carey, Chanute, Kansas, Doris Alyea, of South Dakota, Carroll McCoskey, Kansas City, Missouri, five Grandchildren; jennifer Hollingshead, Caroline Brown, Jennifer Tucker, Hether Fletcher, Neil Burdick and two Great-grandsons: Tyler and Austin.

Preceding her in death are her parents, and one son: Roland D. Hollingshead.

Visitation for Mrs. Hollingshead will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2000 at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hollingshead will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2000 at the First United Methodist Church Leavenworth with burial following in the Mount Muncie Cemetery, Leavenworth.

Family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church.

MARTHA M. GNIP

Mrs. Gnip was born in Leavenworth, KS, on July 4, 1905. She was married to Michael G. Gnip on June 10, 1936; he was a pharmacist, he preceded her in death in 1957. He owned and operated the Gnip's Drug Store in Leavenworth. Mrs. Gnip moved to Kansas City in 1964, where she resided until 1991. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Overland Park, KS, and lifetime member of the St. Casimir Catholic Church Altar Society in Leavenworth, KS. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Pate, Overland Park, KS; two grandchildren, Janice Curry and Joan Pate; and two great-grandchildren.

PVT. H. E HUBBARD LOST.
Soldier From Tonganoxie Killed in Action in the Pacific.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hubbard, Tonganoxie, Kas. have been informed by the War department of the death October 26 of their son, Pvt. Harvey E. Hubbard, 21. The youth was killed in action in the Pacific area.

Born and reared in Kansas City, Private Hubbard attended the Longfellow school. Later he moved with his family to Grain Valley. He enlisted early in 1941.

He leaves also two sisters, Mrs. George Wingate, Tonganoxie, and Mrs. Charles McGee, 1023 North Kansas Avenue, and five brothers, Laurence Hubbard, Kansas City, Kansas; Thomas Hubbard, 1023 North Kansas Avenue; Pvt. Earnest Hubbard, Camp Gruber, Ok., and Edward Hubbard and Alfred Hubbard of the home.

I'm hoping someone will recognize this family. I haven't the slightest clue how Mattie Ryan Hubbard is related to me as she was an orphan raised by (presumably) by her Aunt and Uncle. Helen Bremmer

Charles Edward Jost, Topeka, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Topeka. he was 80.
Mr. Jost was born April 5, 1920, in Leavenworth, the son of William and Maude Tuttle Jost.
He grew up in Leavenworth and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1939.
He served in the Navy at the Great Lakes Naval Station.
He was employed by the Kansas Power and Light for 43 years. After retirement, he served as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society (Road to Recovery Program) for 11 years.
He was a long-term Mason and a member of Scottish Rite with the Blue Lodge 17 in Topeka.
He married Ruth Lorraine Judy in 1939. She preceded him in death in 1961.
He married Alcie M. McMillen on May 28, 1971, in Topeka. She survives at the home.
He is also survived by six daughters, Janice Osborn, Yreka, Calif., Judy Riches, Pittsburg, Jeannine Cobler, Kansas City, Mo., Jody Colhouer, Littleton, Colo., Jan Stuck, Topeka, Judy (2 Judy's by paper) Swiderski, Piedmont, S.D.; one son, Howard Mcmillen, Chelan, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Penwell-Grabel Funeral Home, Topeka.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Muncie Cemetery, Leavenworth.
Memorials may be given to the Midland Hospice and American Cancer Society.
