Martha M. Heim

She was born the daughter of Alfred J. and Martha (Richstatter) Bromell on Dec. 31, 1919, in Leavenworth.

Martha raised her family and worked with her husband as a dairy and grain farmer and had owned and operated Heim Lake until retiring in 1996. Martha lived in the Leavenworth area all of her life and graduated from St. Mary's as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Altar Society and was a CCD teacher for many years. Martha was very involved with 4-H and her two great passions were her flowers and quilting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she touched many lives and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Richard E. and Linda Heim, Easton, Jerry L. and Sandy Heim, Leavenworth, and H.B. and Sandra Heim, McLouth; brother John Bromell; sister Lydia Heintzelman, both of Leavenworth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband of more than 60 years, Harold, and sisters Essie Lallier and Ann Sachse all preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, with rosary said at 7 p.m. at the St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church, 31151 207th St. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel and at the church after 3:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial officiated by the Rev. John Ayang will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at the church followed by burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church or to Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program, both in care of the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, 500 Oak St., Leavenworth, 682-1614.

Enrique Hernandez

He was born the son of Simeon and Petra (Sanchez) Hernandez on Nov. 20, 1919, in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

He married Narcisa Negron on May 9, 1939, in Caguas, Puerto Rico. She survives of the home.

Enrique retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant first class after serving for more than 25 years. He had served in World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War, where he earned numerous citations including the Bronze Star. After the Army, he worked as a nurse at the Kansas State Penitentiary in Lansing.

He was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church of Lansing, the Knights of Columbus No. 900 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 56. Enrique loved spending time in his workshop where he made many items for his family and friends including benches and birdhouses. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening. Enrique loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Narcisa; five daughters, Alice Terron and her husband, Hector, Norma Runnebaum and her husband, Don, all of Leavenworth, Gloria Spence of the home, Rose Mary Cruz, Portage, Ind., and Irma Searcy and her husband, James, Weston, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita Maymi, Caguas, Puerto Rico; and numerous nieces and nephews in Puerto Rico.

His parents and sister, Emerida Hernandez, preceded him in death.

A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 23, 2004, at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 900 Ida. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friends may call from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, 500 Oak St., Leavenworth, KS 66048; 682-1614.

A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by the Rev. Mike Stubbs will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Stella M. Vollintine

Mrs. Vollintine died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004. She was born in Yates Center, the daughter of John and Clara Strouse. She was a member of Tonganoxie Christian Church. On May 7, 1932, she married William B. Vollintine at Fort Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Thelma Schultz, and a granddaughter, Janice Marie Becker.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Belle Jackson, Goddard, and Willena Becker, Boerne, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Genevieve Skaggs

Mrs. Skaggs died Dec. 1, 2004, at Midwest Homeplace, Leavenworth. She was born March 29, 1914, in Scipio, one of 11 children born to Leo and Mary Rockers.

She married Veral W. Skaggs on April 18, 1936, in Kansas City. He survives at Midwest Homeplace in Leavenworth.

Other survivors include a daughter, Joan Lowe, Leavenworth; a son, Robert, Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother; and three sisters. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Verlene McKinzie.

Regina Louise Davis

Ms. Davis died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, in Tonganoxie. She was born Dec. 22, 1964, in Junction City, the daughter of Robert and Lucile (Kleinfehn) Knapp.

She was a respiratory therapist for Mercy Regional Center in Manhattan. She was a graduate of Kansas State and Washburn universities and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie.

Survivors include her son, Devon Davis, of the home; her father, Robert Knapp, Tonganoxie; four brothers, Walter Knapp, Topeka, Robert Knapp, San Diego, John Knapp, Houston, and James Knapp, Emporia; seven sisters, Mary Knapp, Manhattan, Margaret Knapp, Pittsburg, Kathleen Stockman, Tonganoxie, Martha Palmer, Topeka, Donna Somers, Tonganoxie, Karen Bearden, San Diego, and Laura McLoughlin, Riley.

Obituary: Rodney Louis Kleppe

He was born July 5, 1955, in Topeka.

He graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1973 and attended Kansas City Kansas Area Vocational Technical School, graduating with a degree in drafting.

In the 1980s, he worked for Hiller Custom Wood in Wichita, designing aircraft interiors.

He worked in Indonesia for Industri Pesawat Terbang Nasantara Aircraft Company for two years.

In the 1990s, he was part-owner and manager of several Sonic Drive-Ins in Phoenix.

A brother, Steve Kleppe of Phoenix survives.

Services for Lawrence N. Botkin, 83, Tonganoxie were Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor. Burial was in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Mr. Botkin died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Rushville, Mo.

He was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a metal finisher at the General Motors Fairfax plant who retired in 1987. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the United Auto Workers Union, local 31, and the American Legion Post 225 of Ozawkie. Mr. Botkin was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of the home; a daughter, Patricia Young, Tonganoxie; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. A son, Gerald D. Botkin, died in 2001.

Services for Marie Wilhelmina Hallenbeck, 87, Tonganoxie, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.

Mrs. Hallenbeck died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born July 5, 1917, in Lawrence, the daughter of Louie and Mary (Reimer) Milleret.

She grew up in Linwood and graduated from Linwood High School.

She worked as a bus driver for the former Mackey Rural Grade School and for the Tonganoxie school district. She also was employed by Leavenworth County for more than 20 years.

Until 2004, she delivered meals to those who were homebound, and only stopped doing that when she had hip surgery.

Mrs. Hallenbeck was a member of the Happy Hour Social Club and the United Methodist Church of Tonganoxie.

She married George S. Hallenbeck on Nov. 24, 1938. He died in 1987.

Survivors include three sons, Roger Hallenbeck, Great Bend, Ronnie Hallenbeck, Johnston, Iowa, and Larry Hallenbeck, Beijing, China; a brother. L.J. "Pete" Milleret, Lawrence; a sister, Bertha Wise, Lawrence; and two grandchildren.

Obituary: Roberta Lee Miller

Mrs. Miller died last Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Lakeview Manor, Lawrence. She was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Tonganoxie, the daughter of Robert and Mable (Dunn) Pickens.

She was a homemaker and worked as a waitress. Her husband, Charles A. Miller, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Nathan Moore, Topeka; a daughter, Eileene Miller, Lawrence; three brothers, Larry Pickens, Russell, Perry Pickens, Wellington, and Chester Pickens, McLouth; three sisters, Carrie Johnson and Carla Pickens, both of McLouth, and Margie Godfrey, Wamego; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Palmer died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at her home. She was born Jan. 31, 1956, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of George J. and Louise (Monteil) Bichelmeyer.

She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School, Bonner Springs, and a 1974 graduate of Linwood High School, Linwood. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie, and had worked for Deluxe Check Printers, Lenexa, and Plastic Packaging Corp., Kansas City, Kan.

On May 11, 1984, she married John D. Palmer in Kansas City, Kan. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Justin D. Palmer, Lawrence, and Garrett M. Palmer, of the home; a daughter, Rachael Y. Palmer, Lawrence; four brothers, Larry Bichelmeyer, Iowa, George Bichelmeyer, Washington state, Ray Bichelmeyer, Tonganoxie, and Bill Bichelmeyer, Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Shirley Chappell, Washington state, and Mary Stean, Tonganoxie.

Brees Ralph Millard Sr.

He was a welder and fabricator for 40 years working for Missouri Valley Shipyards in Leavenworth, and for Kentworth Truck Co. He retired in 1977.

Mr. Millard attended the Leavenworth public schools. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He is survived by his four sons, Brees R. Millard Jr., Leavenworth, Jerry D. Millard, Lakewood, Colo., Larry D. Millard, Plano, Texas, and Lawrence S. Millard, Atlanta; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill M. Millard, Oxnard, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Leota Nicola and Vivianna Howell; and two brothers, Delbert Millard and Edward Millard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee St., Leavenworth. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at the Davis Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Muncy of the First Christian Church will officiate. Thomas "Tom" E. Eisenring

He was born the son of Stancy W. and S. Marie (Hensley) Eisenring on Dec. 30, 1952, in Leavenworth.

He married Kerry A. Shelly on April 21, 2004, in Hawaii. She survives of the home.

Tom worked at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth for more than 26 years as a boiler plant operator. He was a Navy veteran and had served in the Vietnam War. He attended the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Tommy loved music and had played in the Deja'Blue, Hunerd Proof and the "Zap" Boogie Bands. He will be deeply missed by his family, colleagues and many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Kerry; son, AME2 (NAC) Aaron N. and wife, Stacy Eisenring, Leavenworth; daughter, Laura L. and husband, Sgt. Richard I. Arnold Jr. (USA), Fort Drum, N.Y.; stepsons, Hayden C. Wadsworth and Andrew S. Wadsworth, West Jordan, Utah; brothers, George E. and wife, Ruby Eisenring, Clearwater, Fla., and Richard L. and wife, Marlene Eisenring, Leadville, Colo.; three grandchildren, Robert Leftwich, Matthew Baker and Marcus Baker Jr.; father, Stancy W. Eisenring, Lansing; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

His brother, Stancy W. Eisenring Jr.; and mother, Marie Eisenring, preceded him in death.
