Memorial services for Daryl Eugene Parker Sr., 50, Tonganoxie, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Victory Baptist Church, Tonganoxie. Private inurnment will be in the National Cemetery in Leavenworth.

Mr. Parker died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 5, 1954, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Francis Eugene and Paralee Leeann (Keeton) Parker.

He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Tonganoxie, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was a truck driver for Shawnee Rock Co., Shawnee, and was a part-time police officer and firefighter for the city of Tonganoxie.

On April 19, 1974, he married Joyce Gochenour in Kansas City, Kan. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Daryl E. Parker Jr., Topeka; a daughter, Deanne Morey, Tonganoxie; four sisters, Luella Davis, DeSoto, and Karen Summers, Linda McDonnell and Diana Jones, all of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother Kevin Parker, Kansas City, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Services for Thurlow E. Mongold, 75, Leavenworth, will be at 1:30 p.m. today, May 18, 2005, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, 4701 10th Ave., Leavenworth. Burial with military honors will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. Mongold died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth. He was born May 5, 1930, in Topeka, the son of James and Buleah Jacobus Mongold.

He served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a specialist first class who received numerous citations and medals during his service in Vietnam. He worked as a licensed practical nurse for Munson Army Hospital at Fort Leavenworth for 23 years, before retiring in 1990. He married Frieda Greensman in Germany. They later divorced.

Survivors include five sons, Don Mongold and Curtis Mongold, both of Leavenworth, Thurlow Mongold and Larry Mongold, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Gerry Mongold, Topeka; and three daughters, Diane Howard and Susan Noble, both of Leavenworth, and Judy Mongold, Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home, 4701 10th Ave., Leavenworth, after noon today until the time of service.

James O. Combs Jr., 75, Easton, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Country Care of Easton. He as born Nov. 6, 1929, in Fairfax, Mo., the son of James O. Sr. and Bernice Marie (Gupser) Combs.

He retired in 1970 from the U.S. Army at a rank of staff sergeant, after 20 years of service. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 56 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7.

He married Ada Marie (Goetting) Green on Oct. 29, 1925, in Miami, Okla. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Marie E. Arnold; four sons, Richard, William, James and Jonathan; a stepson, Edward Green Jr.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At Mr. Combs' request, no services will be held. Burial with full military honors will be at 12:30 p.m. today, May 18, 2005, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Jocelyn June Runnebaum

She was born the daughter of Norman and Alice (Wahaus) Highfill on Oct. 23, 1950, in Leavenworth.

She married V. Leo Runnebaum on May 24, 1975, in Leavenworth. He survives at the home.

Jocelyn lived in Leavenworth County all of her life. Jocelyn worked a couple of years for the Lansing school district and worked several years for Hallmark Cards. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Lansing. She loved reading, puzzles, spending time with family and the outdoors. Jocelyn will be best remembered for her amazing strength and fearless personality.

Survivors include her husband, V. Leo Runnebaum; two daughters, Sara (Richard) Lange of Lansing, and Amy

(Jason) Slaughter of Leavenworth; one stepson, Michael (Lilani) Runnebaum of Joplin, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Cheryl (Harold) Shockley of Pineville, Mo.; two grandchildren, Blake Slaughter and Jessica Lange; five step-grandchildren, Tyler Shockley, Kilby Shockley, Kayla Runnebaum, Seth Shockley and Shane Runnebaum; three brothers, Terry (Ann) Highfill, Jon (Brenda) Highfill and Randy (Coral) Highfill, all of Leavenworth; one sister, Shelley (Pat) Whalen of Middletown, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

Jocelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Alice Highfill; and one sister, Sharon Wells.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 900 Ida, Lansing, with the Rev. Roy Ontiveros as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 27, with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. at the R.L. Paul F. Shockey

He was born on July 24, 1937, in Atchison, the son of Frank and Gladys Jenkins Shockey.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was employed for 33 years at Graham Trucking in Leavenworth, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 41, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His life was filled with joy when watching his children play sports in their younger years, and equally enjoyed his grandchildren everyday. He loved working on cars, bowling and playing golf.

He married Joan Ramey on Dec. 15, 1956, in Leavenworth. She survives at the couple's home. He is further survived by two daughters, Jodi (Jim) Slapper, Paula (Bryce) Johnson and a very special daughter, Brenda Pierce, all of Leavenworth; two sons, Jim (Sharie) Shockey, Leavenworth, and Paul David Shockey, Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren, Josh, Tavi, Brent, Alyssa, Breanne and Heath; two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Connor; one brother, Louie Shockey, Atchison; and five sisters, Betty Nelson, Midland, Texas, Bessie Simpson, Rosemary Cornforth and Dee Simpson, all of Leavenworth, and Marge Baker of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill, Jim and Jack Shockey; and one sister, Loretta.

Mrs. Didde, who was a homemaker, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at Country Care in Easton.

She was born March 25, 1922, in Leavenworth, the daughter of Clarence and Florence Aaron.

She married Ignatius Didde on Nov. 3, 1945, in Leavenworth; he died May 1, 1999.

Her twin sister, Ann Marie Aaron, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Dale Didde, Lansing, Dean Didde, Leavenworth, and Kevin Didde, Easton; a brother, Donald Aaron, Leavenworth; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

George F. Visocsky

Mr. Visocsky died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at his home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Ralston, Neb., to Steve J. and Edith Beatrice Van Fleet Visocsky. He was one of 12 children.

Mr. Visocsky retired in 1988 from Fort Leavenworth, where he was an exhibits maker. He also had been a locksmith at Yuma Proving Grounds in Yuma, Ariz.

He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, Leavenworth, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Yuma, and the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Visocsky had spent his winters in Yuma for the past 18 years.

He married Patricia A. Wiley on April 10, 1958, in Leavenworth. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Peggy Lynn Cole; two sons, George 'Tony', Leavenworth, Mark A., Yuma; two sisters, Ella Marie Siderewicz, Yuma, and Rita Jean Courtney, Covolo, Calif.; five brothers, Steve, David, Dennis and Ronald, all of Leavenworth, and Leo, Yuma; nine grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.

Chester "Ski" Dlugopolski

Mr. Dlugopolski died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1924, in Hammond, Ind., the son of Andrew and Assa (Fudala) Dlugopolski.

A veteran of World War II, he retired from the U.S. Army. From 1965-67, he served as police chief for the city of Lansing. He then worked as a food supervisor at the U.S. Penitentiary from 1967-1983. Later, he worked as a cook at the Fort Leavenworth Officers Club and retired as a screener at Kansas City International Airport.

Mr. Dlugopolski was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and National Rifle Association.

He married Delores E. Grabowski on Oct. 26, 1949, in Crown Point, Ind. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Chester J. II, Leavenworth, and Michael, Harker Heights, Texas; five daughters, Marcia Beck, Olathe, Barbara Bowleski and Michelle Ballard, both of Leavenworth, Regina Parks, Lansing, and Felicia Bennett, Tulsa, Okla.; five sisters, Caroline, Kolodziep, Dyere, Ind., Bernice Tokarz, Grovertown, Ind., Theresa Opatk, East Chicago, Ind., Victoria Bennett, Fordsville, Ky., and Mary Ann Kmiatek, Hammond, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ricky M. Rodgers

He died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Fort Polk, La.

He was born April 19, 1978, at Fort Leavenworth, the son of Jesse Rodgers and Sun Rodgers.

He had been serving in the U.S. Army as a sergeant at the time of his death. Mr. Rodgers was going to school to become a recruiter, and he and his wife were scheduled to go to Miami, Fla., in December.

He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, and was active in JROTC for four years, earning many marksmanship awards.

He entered the Army on April 11, 2000 and served an 18-month tour in Korea before going to Fort Polk.

On Aug. 5, 1998, he married Amanda L. Alexander. She survives at the home.

Other survivors include his children, Kalvin, 6, Anthony, 2 and Aaliyah, 6 months, all of the home; his parents; a sister, Jane; and his grandfather, Jessie Rodgers.

His Grandmother Sarah, an important and influential part of his life, preceded him in death.

Daisy B. Inman

Mrs. Inman died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at her home.

She was born July 13, 1918, in Vincennes, Iowa, the daughter of Otto F. and Mary (Jackson) Kempes.

She married Joseph O. Inman in Keokuk, Iowa. He died Aug. 5, 1974.

Mrs. Inman was a personal home care attendant for many years, and she previously worked as a motel manager in Seaside, Calif., and as a seamstress.

She attended Jarbalo United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Judie D. Zielinski, Easton; a brother, Thomas Kempkes, Carthage, Ill., a sister, Betty Parsons, Hurst, Texas; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A son, Sidney L. 'Bud' Stringer, also died earlier.

Mrs. Hiatt died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

Mrs. Hiatt had worked as a data processor for many years. Before moving back to the Leavenworth area, she had lived the past 25 years in Kansas City, Kan.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana Snedegar, Leavenworth, and Linda Pasco, Buffalo, N.Y.; a son, Douglas, Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Beulah C. Davis

Mrs. Davis died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Country Care on Broadway Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Poole, Neb., the daughter of Karl and Frieda (Reese) Jochem.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP and the Federal Prison’s Retirement Association.

She married Bert W. 'Bud' Davis on Oct. 22, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Oct. 29, 1981.

Survivors include two sisters, Rosella E. Lammers, Kearney, Neb., and Bernice Peterson, Cheyenne, Wyo.

Betty Jean Wetzel

Mrs. Wetzel died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Overland Park Regional Hospital.

She was born Oct. 21, 1936, in North Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of William and Delia (Cooper) Platt.

Mrs. Wetzel had worked at the Veterans Affairs Hospital for 22 years before her retirement in 1990.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for 25 years.

On Feb. 6, 1953, she married Dallas Charles Wetzel in Leavenworth. He died Dec. 31, 1989.

Survivors include two sons, William Wetzel, Pensacola, Fla., and Richard Wetzel, Lansing; two daughters, Joan Orndorff, Leavenworth, and Shirley Oylear, Easton; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Imogene Cordt

Mrs. Cordt died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at her home.

She was born April 6, 1944, in McIntire, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence F. and Sarah E. (Norman) Roberts.

Mrs. Cordt had worked for Sears for many years as manager of the tool department and previously had been manager of the Leavenworth McDonald’s. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She married Richard Cordt on Dec. 19, 1986, in Leavenworth. He died Jan. 5, 2003.

An infant son, Ronald Wages, also died earlier.

Survivors include a son, William R. Wages, Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Michelle A. Wages, Excel, Ala.; two stepsons, Richard Cordt, Liberty, Mo., and Robert Cordt, Leavenworth; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Fryman and Pam Brushwood, both of Leavenworth; a brother, Ray R., Perry, Iowa; former husband, Lowell Wages, Excel, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ruth Dale Garrison

1907-2005

Mrs. Garrison died Sept. 19, 2005, in Tonganoxie. She was born Dec. 5, 1907, in Phelps City, Mo., the daughter of Frank and Myrtle Slemons. The family moved to Pawnee City, Neb., in 1910. She obtained her schooling in Pawnee City.

Mrs. Garrison taught school for one year before moving to Kansas City, Mo.

She was employed by Katz Drug Store for a time, then represented a candy company. She was employed as a freight rate specialist for the U.S. government from 1941 until she retired in 1973.

Mrs. Garrison was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include two brothers, June Slemons, Greeley, Colo., and Robert Slemons, Grand Island, Neb.

Mrs. Lester died last Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. She was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Neal and Verna (Givens) Norris. She was a homemaker. On Jan. 18, 1941, she married Paul G. Lester in Liberty, Mo. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Janice Ann O'Haro, Carthage, Mo., Glenda Lee Cox, Tonganoxie, and Linda Sue Cook, Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Vincent DePaul McEvoy

1915-2005

Services for Vincent DePaul McEvoy, 90, Leavenworth, were Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Leavenworth.

Mr. McEvoy died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

He was born March 25, 1915, in Leavenworth, the son of Isaac J. and Mary Elizabeth "Mayme" (Kennedy) McEvoy.

He grew up on the Patrick McEvoy Home Place in Kickapoo, which was settled by his grandparents in the 1860s. He was a childhood parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Kickapoo. He attended Rock School, Kickapoo Township, and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1933. After high school, he farmed with his father for two years before operating a Standard Oil service station at Fourth and Chestnut in Leavenworth with his brother Charles. He then operated his own station in Atchison. In 1940, he became the Standard Oil agent in Leavenworth.

Mr. McEvoy married Francis Marian Gruendel on Jan. 29, 1942, at Sacred Heart Church in Kickapoo.

He was inducted into the Army-Air Force during World War II, serving from Sept.16, 1942, to Sept. 16, 1945. After the war, Mr. McEvoy and his wife operated the Standard Oil/Amoco Oil business at 11th and Osage streets in until they retired in 1974.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Society, Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles Aerie No. 55 and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Thomas V. McEvoy, Timothy C. McEvoy, and the Rev. David D. McEvoy, all of Leavenworth; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wagner died Sept. 22, 2005, at her residence.

She was born on June 25, 1933, in Winchester, the daughter of Lloyd (Barney) Calvin and Nellie (Martin) LaMont.

Mrs. Wagner was a member of Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She married Robert L. Wagner on March 9, 1950, in Platte City, Mo. He survives of the home.

Theresa Bauer

He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1996. They were both lifelong residents of Leavenworth.

Theresa devoted her life to selflessly caring for her family. In adult years, she was an avid gardener, raising vegetables and fruits.

She enjoyed crocheting when she sat still long enough to put needle to thread. She was a member of St. Casimir Church, Eagles Auxiliary, and various bowling leagues, winning local and regional championships with her teams. In their later years, she and Martin were regular garage sale shoppers. Theresa enjoyed playing bingo with the seniors in Leavenworth.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and four sisters. She is survived by five children: Theresa Vardiman and Martin (Christine) Bauer of Leavenworth, Mary Ellen (Hugh) Wentz of Lawrence, Bennett (Cynthia) Bauer of Saratoga, Calif., and Barbara Bauer of Mountain View, Calif.; eight grandchildren: Cynthia Forbes, John Vardiman, Christopher Vardiman, Megan Whitebread, Shannon White, Peter Wentz, Kendrick Bauer and Alexandria Bauer; one step-grandchild, Paul Brewer; seven great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Ellen Wranich of Lansing and Martha Atchley of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, James Schwartz of Centennial, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at St. Casimir Church on Sept. 29.

There will be a visitation at the Church at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Leavenworth Regional Catholic Schools, Country Care's Broadway Aviary, or to the University of Saint Mary in care of Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Duncanson died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at his home. He was born July 4, 1916, in Tonganoxie, the son of Mortimer and Grace (Courtney) Duncanson.

He worked as a plumber. He lived in California and Washington State most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth.

Survivors include two brothers, Ted Duncanson, Tonganoxie, and Fred Duncanson, Fairbanks, Alaska, and three sisters, Martha Leimkuhler, Tonganoxie, Mary Dustin, Andover, Mass., and Millie Cook, Ottawa, Kan.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ottawa First United Methodist Church, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, 66086.

Mr. Messinger died Monday, Sept. 26, at his home.

He was born June 26, 1982, in Leavenworth, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Martin) Messinger.

Survivors include his mother; a sister, Shelley Messinger; a son, Charles, and his mother, Rebecca Brosnan; and grandparents Jewell Martin and Helen Messinger.

Elsie Frances Hill Vestal

She was born on Dec. 1, 1906, in Liberty, Mo., the daughter of Hiram P. and Cordia Lee Salyers Huntsman.

Elsie married Charles T. Hill on March 17, 1923. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1946. She then married Ralph Vestal on Aug. 6, 1957. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Rosa Lee Simonis and Ruth Marie O'Rourke; and her sons, Gerald Ray Hill, Charles R. Hill, James H. Hill and Earl Jack Hill.

Elsie is survived by her daughters, Cora Lee Bergman, St. Joseph, Mo., and Betty Jean Linaweaver, Leavenworth; her sons, Alva F. Hill, Florida, and Joseph M. Hill, Leavenworth; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Elsie worked at the Veterans Administration Center for 27 years in food service, retiring in 1973. She was baptized at the Hoover Christian Church, Hoover, Mo.
