Topic: Thomas MYERS
From: Joseph Reinke jorjar_2000@yahoo.com
Date: Monday, December 16, 2002 02:55 PM
Trying to find information on THOMAS MYERS. His Civil War discharge papers were
amongst my g-great grandfather JAMES MARION BROWN'S papers. The information I
have is as follows: It states that THOMAS MYERS was a Corporal of Captain John
M. Longstreth's Company(?)4th Regiment of ILL. Vol. Cavalry. He enrolled on Aug.
26, 1861 to serve 3 yrs., and was discharged from service on May 8, 1862 at
Pottsburg, Tennessee. His height is listed as: 5'10, complexion as dark, eyes
gray, and hair dark. It says that he was born in McLean County, ILL. I looked up
information on him and found him to be born on Jan. 11, 1834 (this date adds up
and it states on the discharge papers that he was 27 yrs.) in McLean County,
ILL. and that he died on Apr. 25, 1912 in Mound City, Linn County, KS. I don't
know why we have these papers-I don't know what the connection is. I wonder if
he is a relative of the BROWN, BECKER, or DAVIS family. Most of those listed
lived in MO (Bates, Vernon, Johnson, Macon or Randolph, Pettis Counties), If
anyone has any information it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Topic: Samuel H. RHODES and Sarah MARTIN family
From: Mildred Prather mprather@coin.org
Date: Sunday, September 29, 2002 08:29 PM
Samuel Henderson RHODES was born in Union Co., PA in 1834. The first census I
have found him in was 1860 in Coles Co., IL, Hickory Twp., where he is listed as
age 27 in a household with Jacob Rhoads, age 78, Jos. age 20, Mary age 45, John
age 11, all born PA. Because of the age difference I am considering the
possibility that Jacob may be Samuel's grandfather. Does anyone have information
on Jacob?
In 1864 Samuel married Sarah Angeline MARTIN in Coles Co., IL.
In 1870 Samuel is still in Coles Co., IL with wife Sally (Sarah MARTIN) age 21,
born KY; Alwildy age 4; Schuyler, age 2; and Mary, age 1; all children born
IL.
Samuel died 1879, location uncertain. In 1966 his body was moved from Wait
Cemetery to Highland Cemetery in Linn Co., KS.
In 1880 Sarah, a widow, is in Liberty Twp., Linn Co., KS, age 32. Ally is age
15, Schuyler is 12, Samuel is 6, Nancy is 4, all the children born IL.
Sarah may have re-married, and apparently she or at least part of the family
went to Missouri before 1886, when the son Schuyler died in MO and was buried
near Summersville, which is located on the country line between Shannon and
Texas counties. In 1908, the son Samuel Pleasant married Bertie Pearline ADAMS
in Rector Co., MO.
Sarah died 1923 and is buried in Highland Cemetery, Liberty Twp., Linn Co.,
KS.
I would like to correspond with anyone who knows anything about this family.

if there were and SOWERSBY buried in any other cemeteries.
You may want to check for obituaries in the microfilms of the local newspapers.
These are available for interlibrary loan from the Kansas State Historical
Society. Some county records are also micro filmed and available for ILL. Here

Looking for information on CRISSUP, GARRETT families. Both would have ties to
Effingham Co. IL and Lewis and Hickman Co's TN.

Hi Sonya:
I have GARRETT'S in my ancestry, whom lived in the Blue Mound & Mound City area
of Linn County in Kansas. There is a JASPER C. GARRETT whom married a CAROLINE
L. CATT, and he also married my gg-grandmother MARTHA ANN (HUNT)-POWELL. He was
her second-husband. He had a nickname of "Turner", and I cannot find any
information about him. I also have an EMMA E. GARRETT that was my great-Aunt,
and whom married my grandfather's brother ORVAN SAMUEL POWELL. Do you have any
information on her possibly? The old Garrett homestead of my gg-grandmother
Martha & Jasper's is located (in ruins) on the farm of my grandparents OTIS E.
POWELL & HAZEL U. (NEWMAN)-POWELL, whom are now both deceased and it's owned by
someone else now. Please to contact me so perhaps we can sort out some of these
people. Thank you!!
Sincerely, Rowena Marten
