Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society began in 1966 when concerned citizens of the community recognized the need for a genealogical organization to collect, preserve and disseminate genealogical and related historical data, with special emphasis on the preservation of Sedgwick County history and heritage.

MHGS is a non profit organization with no ethnic, age or racial restrictions. The officers serving the Society for the current term are: President - Erika Melega; Vice President - Pat McCurdy; Secretary - Marcelyn Harris; Treasurer - Michael Werner; Membership Chair - Nancy Stahl; Ways and Means Chair - Roy Hughes; Building and Grounds Chair - Curtis Brown; Publicity Chair - Margaret Lucas; "Alert" Editor - Vince Hancock; "REGISTER" Editor - Ann Hathaway Boll; Program Chair - ; and Librarian, .

For further information on the Society or membership please call (316) 264-3611 during business hours) or send SASE to: Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 1121, Wichita, KS 67201-1121 or stop by the library at 1203 North Main, Wichita, KS. E-mail: mhgs1121@aol.com

We find it necessary to cut back on the hours the MHGS library will be open. As of 1 April 2008, the MHGS library will be open on Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM, and on the second Saturday afternoon of each month from 12:30 PM to 4 PM. We strongly encourage you to e-mail or call 316-264-3611 in advance if you are planning to visit the MHGS library to ensure the library will be open.

As MHGS expands its list of trained library volunteers, or finds a chief librarian, we hope to return the library to the previous schedule.
