STOCKTON — Lilly R. Schleusener, 87, Stockton, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.  Mrs. Schleusener was born Lilly R. Mosel on June 18, 1919, in Orchard, Neb. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Eldon.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred O., of the home; two sons, William of Grand Island, Neb., and Keith of Utica, Neb.; two daughters, Cynthia Cahill of Danbury, N.H., and Brenda Stanley of Abrams, Wis.; two brothers, Walter of Neligh, Neb., and Gilbert of Orchard; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton 67669. Burial will be in Stockton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Redeemer Mission Program, in care of the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

N.A. “Bill” Cates, 93, Plainville, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Rooks County Health Center, Plainville.  He was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Sand Springs, Okla., to N.J. and Elizabeth (Myers) Cates.  He married Bertha A. Schmidt on March 31, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He owned Plainville Boat Shop until retiring.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, N.A, “Buck” Cates, Wichita; two daughters, Karen Rachel, Las Vegas, Mary Werner, Garland; a brother, Don Cates, Austin, Texas; a sister, Eva Newell, Pomona, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, Plainville; inurnment will follow.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at funeral home.

Alfred C. Arpin, 86, Damar, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Rooks County Senior Services, Plainville.  He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Damar to F.E. and Rosa (Newell) Arpin. He graduated from Damar High School.  He married Marcella Desmarteau on Sept. 15, 1942, in Damar. She preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1998. He later married Verna Simoneau on Dec. 26, 2001, in Damar. He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Dale Arpin, Thorton, Colo.; two daughters, Judy Bieker, Hays, Renee Marcotte, Plainville; a sister, Virgina Thyfault, Damar; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Arpin; a son Allen Arpin.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Damar; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Damar.
Visitation will be from 9 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, both at the church.
A parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary, both at church.

McPherson-Edna M. Wiggins, 96, McPherson, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006.  Mrs. Wiggins was born Edna M. Glendening on Jan. 17, 1910, in Codell.  She was a homemaker.  Her husband, Vaughn E., died in 1979
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Potter of McPherson; a son, Charles of Athena, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Free Methodist Church, McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church or Gideons International, in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson 67460.

Max Stull, Plainville, formerly of Natoma, died Sunday, De
c. 17, 2006, at Rooks County Senior Services, Plainville.  He was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Zurich to Harold and Wane and Sylvia Merle (Brown) Stull. He was a 1938 graduate of Palco High School.  He married Alberta Marie Jennings on Sept. 26, 1941, in WaKeeney. He later married Goldie M. Gable on Dec. 30, 1976. She preceded him in death Sept. 26, 2001. He was retired from the oilfield.
Survivors include four sons, Marshall Wane Stull, Solomon, Lary Stull, Hays, Keith Stull, McPherson, and Joel Stull, Natoma; a daughter, Jean Tatkenhorst, Natoma; a step-daughter, Susan Gabel; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Natoma; burial in Green Mound Cemetery near Palco.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., both at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, Plainville, and from 9 a.m. until time if service Wednesday at the church, Natoma.

Hazel May Conger, 90, Hays, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Hays Medical Center.  She was born May 4, 1916, in Pawnee County to George and Mollie (Sunley) Cook. She graduated from Larned High School in 1934 and completed studies at Salt City Business College. She continued her education in Washington, graduating in 1945 with a bachelor's degree in commercial science from Bejamin Franklin University.  She married William Duane Conger on Aug. 16, 1962, in Colby. She worked for the experiment station in Colby.
Survivors include her husband; and a brother, Allen Cook, Larned.
A private burial service was at East Paradise Conger Cemetery.
Plainville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

17 Dec 2006 The Hays Daily News Velia V. Stuchlik
Velia V. Stuchlik, 95, Hill City, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Dawson Place Nursing Home, Hill City.  She was born Jan 12, 1911, in rural Gove County to U.G. and Karrie Belle (Siegrist) Smith.  She married Ancil Stuchlik on Nov. 18, 1932, in Stockton. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Wyman Stuchlik, Manhattan, Mont.; a daughter, Marlayne Boller, Norton; a sister, Elsie Lott, Hill City; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City; burial in Hill City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 2 p.m. until time of service Tuesday, both at the funeral home.

ST. MARYS - Mr. Russell DeVillier, 83 of 803 North 8th Street, died Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 after a short illness. He was born in October, 1923, the son of John Davis and Alice (Dupris) "Dee Dee" DeVillier. He attended Southwestern University in Lafayette, Louisiana prior to joining the US Army. He served 4 years as a hospital orderly and medic during World War II. In 1946, he married Angela Agnes Haverkamp. He received a Bachelor's degree (in 1948) and a Master's degree (in 1962) in Education from Emporia State University. Russell was a secondary school administrator and educator for over 40 years in the Kansas and Louisiana school systems. His students can be found throughout Kansas. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish in St. Marys. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Jane Davida. He is survived by his wife and 4 children; James Russell and wife Jodi Holman; Stephen Donald, Eugene Benedict and wife Cheryl Fees and Lorraine Anne and husband Robert Mitch Poell. Seven surviving grandchildren include: David Mitchell Poell, Lauren Elizabeth Poell, Phillip James DeVillier, Paul Haver DeVillier, Stephanie Elise DeVillier, Charles Andrew DeVillier and Catherine Ann DeVillier. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 16th at St. Marys Catholic Church in St. Benedict, KS. Interment will be at the church cemetery in St. Benedict on this day. In lieu of flowers, donations and memorial gifts in his name can be made to the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, 1251 Wescoe Hall Drive, 2056 Malott, Lawrence, KS 66045 and Holy Cross Catholic School, 8101 West 95th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212. Vernon Coddington, 79, Hill City, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Graham County Hospital, Hill City.  He was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Palco to Lawrence H. and Della A. (Anderson) Coddington.  He married Doris Aust on Dec. 18, 1948, in Norton. He was a farm-equipment salesman.
Survivors include three sons, Steven D. Coddington, Johnstown Colo., Delton D. Coddington, Aurora, Colo., and Alan B. Coddington, Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Cheryl Schneider, Gardner; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church, Hill City; burial in Hill City Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Jessie M. Carmack, 72, Palco, died Sunday, Dec. 10. 2006, at her home.  She was born July 11, 1934, in Chicago to Robert and Norva (Cosgrove) Cleveland.   She married Kenneth Carmack. He preceded her in death. She was a medical secretary.
Survivors include a son, James Carmack, Leavenworth; a daughter, Julie Cleveland, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Judith Busby, Palco; and a grandson.
Inurnment took place in Prescott, Ariz.

DAMAR — Ernest “Ernie” Darnell, 87, Damar, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006.Mr. Darnell was born April 24, 1919, in Waldo. He was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by two sons and two granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife, Zelda Mae, of Damar; a son, Shane; three daughters, Marilyn Darnell of Hutchinson, Carolyn Terry of Plainville and Shannon Kibel of Bogue; a brother, Gary of Plainville; three sisters, Hope Denton of Colorado, Maxine Campbell of Texas and Helen DeGarmo of Alaska; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hill City. Burial will be in Morland Township Cemetery, rural Graham County.
A vigil will be at 8:30 p.m. today at the church.

 Mildred Louise Thummel, 103, Esbon, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Long Term Care, Smith Center.  She was a housewife.
Survivors include a son, Ted Thummel, Esbon; two daughters, JoAnn Bennett, Stockton, and Jean Brogdon, Raytown, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Greg; a daughter, Elizabeth; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Esbon; burial in St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery, Esbon.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Simmons-Olliff-Boeve Chapel, and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, Esbon, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Doris Ellen (Dinkel) Palmberg, 73, Hays, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at St. John's of Hays.  She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Morland to Ira and Zelma (Keith) Bell.  She married Edward Dinkel on April 7, 1952, in St. Peter. He preceded her in death July 13, 1970. She later married Albert Palmberg on Aug. 5, 1972. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1995. She was a homemaker, crafter and collector.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include four sons, Gary Dinkel, Loveland, Colo., Don Dinkel and Leon Dinkel and wife, Celeste, all of Hays, and Alan Dinkel and wife, Marlena, Plainville; six grandchildren, Heath Dinkel, Cody Dinkel, Kayla Dinkel, Garet Dinkel, Alena Dinkel and Alessa Dinkel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Gilbert Bell, Maynard Bell, William Bell, Duane Bell and Leonard Bell, and a sister, Mildred Bell Hunsicker.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial at 2:30 p.m. in St. Anthony Cemetery, St. Peter.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, Hays.
A parish vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

PLAINVILLE — Wanda Zee Chesney, 79, Plainville, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006.Mrs. Chesney was born Wanda Zee Glodfelty on Aug. 7, 1927, in Woodston. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, in 2003; and a daughter, Connie Melton.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Blecha of Plainville; three sons, Kent of Stockton, Keith of rural Woodson and Kevin of Salina; four sisters, Ruby Jackson of Stockton, Leona Silvers of Haven, Dorothy Dibble of Alton and Rosilee Folsom of Plainville; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Plainville. Burial will be in Survey Cemetery, rural Woodston.

Christine A. Casper, 87, Stockton, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Hays Medical Center.  She was born June 19, 1919, in Tipton to Bernard and Barbara (Streit) Kohn.  She was a waitress for restaurants in Stockton and Concordia.
Survivors include a brother, Alex Kohn, Wayne, Neb.; and a sister, Susan Mans, Campbell, Neb.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Stockton; burial in St. Thomas Cemetery, Stockton.

EDGEWATER, Colo. — Bill Byrnes, 54, Edgewater, died Sept. 11, 2006.Mr. Byrnes was born March 12, 1952, in Natoma, Kan.
Survivors include his mother, Reba Byrnes, of Frankfort, Kan., and a sister, Erma Davis of Denver.
A memorial service was held at Mountain View Friends Meeting House in Denver. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chalk Mound Cemetery, Woodston, Kan., with a reception following at Mt. Ayr Friends Church in Alton, Kan.

ZURICH — Velma Lorraine Mendenhall, 72, Zurich, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006.  Mrs. Mendenhall was born Velma Lorraine Meitler on May 20, 1934, in rural Sylvan Grove. She was a retired cook.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Delwin, in 1985; and a great-granddaughter.

He was the owner-operator of the PlainvilleBowling Alley and retired from Schult Mobile Home Factory.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; son Robert “Bob” Meistrell; and three grandchildren.

Louise C. Johnston, 75, Blue Rapids, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Lincoln, Neb.  She was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Tarnov, Neb., to Henry A. and Cecilia (Bednarz) Krings. She was a 1948 graduate of Loveland, Colo., High School and a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado.  She married Harry Johnston on Dec. 27, 1955, in Plainville. She was a teacher in Palco and taught at Navy Dependents School, Phillipine Islands.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; three daughters, Kathy Johnston, Manhattan, Kim Benteman, Waterville, and Karla Bryant, Beatrice, Neb.; two brothers, Lyle Krings and LeRoy Krings, both of Loveland; a sister, Lucille Krings, Oakland, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Monica/St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Blue Rapids; burial in Fairmont Cemetery, Blue Rapids.

Genevieve Beatrice Stull, 99, Chapman, formerly of Abilene, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at Chapman Valley Manor, Chapman.  She was born June 14, 1907, in Rooks County to Ralph and Stella (Miller) Stull. She attended Greenmound Grade School and was a graduate of Palco High School. She was a graduate of Fort Hays State College and attended graduate school at the University of Southern California.  She taught at Palco Junior High School and the grade and high schools in Stockton. She was also employed with Rooks County and Riley County welfare departments and served as director of placement for child welfare in western Kansas.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Greenmound Cemetery, near Palco.

Schmidtberger.  He married Mary Ellen Harvey on Feb. 17, 1973, in Atwood. They have lived in Gardner for the last 17 years. He worked as a carpenter for Lee Schmidt Construction, Gardner, for 15 years. He was also a foreman for Reese Construction, Sandia. This company built bridges.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, Gardner.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Jamie Schmidtberge
r and Kiley Weston, Edgerton; two daughters, Katina Castro and husband, Armando, Itasca, Texas, and Janie Schmidtberger, Gardner; his mother, Victoria; mother-in-law, Rose Harvey, Huron, S.D.; a brother, Loren Schmidtberger and wife, Donna, Colby; three sisters, Sharon Jensen and husband, Ed, Pocatello, Idaho, and Jolene Francis and husband, Richard, Centennial, Colo., and Vickey Wederski and husband, Dave, Puduach, Texas; five grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Codell High School.  He was married to Dien Thi Tran. He later married Ronna Groom Hockett on March 10, 2001, in Plainville. He served in the U.S. Army.

He served in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard and the Army Reserves. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone for 42 years.

Blakesley on June 15, 1931, in Holyoke, Colo. She was deputy clerk of the district court in Rooks County for many years, retiring in 1977.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, an active Senior Companion and Hadley Hospital Auxiliary volunteer.
Survivors include a son, Claude R. Blakesley and wife, Margaret, Hutchinson; a daughter, Louisa B. Morain and husband, Roy, Stockton; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Eugene Blakesley; and a daughter, Mary Leota Harrington, and two sisters.

EAGLE ROCK, Mo. — Cody Lee Ganoung, 25, Eagle Rock, formerly of Plainville, Kan., died Sunday, July 23, 2006.  Mr. Ganoung was born Jan. 31, 1981. He was a loan officer in Springfield, Mo.
Survivors include his father, Craig, of Eagle Rock; a daughter, Kelsey Anne Ganoung of St. Louis; two brothers, Chad of Cassville and Casey of Eagle Rock; grandparents, Beverly Foster, Vivian Ganoung and Bob Foster, all of Plainville, and Leona Mayfield of Eagle Rock; and a stepmother, Rebecca Ganoung of Eagle Rock.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m.today at United Methodist Church, Plainville. Burial will be in Plainville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cody Lee Ganoung Memorial Fund for the benefit of his daughter’s education, in care of Moore Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville 67663.

HILL CITY— Ronald “Ron” Bedore, 59, Hill City, died Monday, July 24, 2006.   Mr. Bedore was born March 9, 1947, in Stockton. He was an automobile detailer.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Hill City; two sons, Lance of Ellis and Layne of Hill City; a daughter, Lynette Anderson of WaKeeney; his mother, Evelyn Bedore, of Hill City; two brothers, Darrell of Damar and Richard “Dick” of Aurora, Colo.; a sister, Joann Chavez of Irving, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m.Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hill City. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stinemetz Funeral Home, 522 N. Pomeroy, Hill City, KS 67642, and from 9 a.m.until the service time Friday at the church.

Margaret C. Hedge, 75, WaKeeney, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.  She was born July 23, 1931, in Park to Andrew and Teresa (Foster) Weber.  She was married to Buel Taylor. She later married Everett C. Hedge on Oct. 25, 1974, in Phillipsburg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1979. She was a waitress and cook.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Taylor, Fulton, Mo., and Jim Hedge, Lincoln; six daughters, Shirley Eichman, WaKeeney, Linda Reynolds, Rotan, Texas, Donna Buchholz, Collyer, Cindy Hashenberger, Plainville, Susan Boyle, Hoisington, and Patricia Anderson, Great Bend; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Mary Chase; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672; burial in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
