who may have lived in Scott County.  We will add more links as they become available.  


Scott County was organized by the state legislature in January 1886, thirteen years after the boundaries were defined
and the county was surveyed.  Scott City, the county seat, is located in the center of the county.  
Some of the early towns were Pence City, Painter City, Zenobia and Arcola.  Modoc, Manning, Grigston,
and Shallow Water are towns still located in the county.

The Scott County Historical Society was originally formed in January 12, 1931.  It was reformed in May of 2001
and the content of this page is in part possible, because of their hard work and dedication to preserving
not only their own family histories, but also providing Scott County historical information to those who desire it.

The following are some places in Scott County where you can obtain information on your descendants
who lived here at any one time.

*Cemetery Listing, located at the Scott County Cemetery.
            1 mile south from K96 on Kansas Road, or

            1 mile west on Scott County West Road 140 from US 83.

 a wonderful gift for your parents, children, that special relative, or yourself!
 It could be a beautiful addition to a heritage scrapbook.
 Applicants must prove descent from a resident of Scott County  
 up to 1930. The applicant does not need to live in Scott County.

Our society meets 7 pm the 2nd Thursday each month, at the Scott County Library. The August meeting is to be announced.  
We are a non-profit organization and welcome visitors.  



     Help us preserve family histories of Scott County.  If you have family records you do not want,
      consider donating them to Scott County Genealogical Society. County  history books are wonderful!
      Are there old yearbooks, pictures, church or social group memories that you no longer want?    
      Instead of throwing out items from an estate, please remember our society.
