Gooch, Clark/Clarke, Francis, Allison, Wells
Hi,
The Sumner County families I am interested in are ancestors and descendants of Joseph Franklin Gooch and his wife Willa Mina Clark/Clarke and their siblings.
Willa Mina Clark/Clarke Gooch had a brother Samuel Vance Clark/Clarke who married Sarah J. Allison. Sarah had a sister Mary Elizabeth Allison who married Ransom Wells. The Allison girls are believed to be daughters of James K. Allison and Harriet Burr or Barr.
Willa Mina's parents were George Washington Clark/Clarke and Sarah Jane Powell and they had quite a large family. I have seen some postings which listed Samuel as her father but he was her brother.
Joseph F. Gooch came from West Virginia, via Illinois, with sister Alvira, brother John and their mother Eveline Gooch. They were from Ohio County, WV, and his father William Gooch died about 1860, probably before his youngest sibling, Mary, was born in December 1860. By 1875 Joseph and siblings were residing in Kansas in Palatine Township.
Am hoping to make contact with other descendants with more information. Thanks for any help you can give.

KERR
I am researching William Kerr B 1841 in Scotland, his wife Sarah B
1861 in Iowa and daughter Stella Kerr B 1880 in Scotland. They appear
in the 1880 Census Index in Palestine, Sumner, KS. I am interested
in any Kerrs or descendants of William to determine if William's
father was Francis Henderson Kerr B 1809 and Grisel Dodds Kerr B
1808 in Scotland?, and also if there are others researching this
family. I have more information to share.
Thank you very much.

They lived & farmed 5 miles south of Conway Springs on highway 49 & a quarter mile west on the south side of the road. My Dad & his brother & 4 sisters were born on the farm. My Dad's name was Robert William Doyle. He was born in 1914.He died at the Conway Springs Spring view manner in 2006. .
I am looking for information about Charles and Myrtle Haeberle. According to WWI Draft Registration for Charles (Charley), they farmed near Conway Springs. They had 2 daughters, Dorothy and Doris. Charley was born in 1884 but I do not know if he was born in Sumner Co. I know that by 1930 he and the 2 girls lived in Wichita. I do not know what happened to Myrtle. Sometime after 1930 Charley married my aunt, Mable Edna Hamm in Wichita. It was there and in that relationship that I knew him. I think, when he died, he was buried with Myrtle which may be in Sumner Co. I would appreciate any information anyone might have on this family. Thank you very much.
Am looking for any information on Alice Maude Levagood, born in Michigan in 1862 to David & Phoebe Levagood, graduated from Park College, Parksville, Mo 1882, returned to her home in southern Kansas (possibly the Rue family), taking a position teaching in a government school @ Anadarko, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). 26Mar1884 she married Henry Newton Brown, Marshall of Caldwell, Kansas. Subsequent to his death, she moved to Devils Lake, North Dakota, proving up on 100 acres of land. Subsequently she attended Valparaiso University in Indiana, commencing a two year period of studies leading to her teaching degree in 1889. In 1891 she moved to Frankfort, Indianna working for Drs. Strange & Palmer, eventually becoming matron of the Palmer Hospital, retiring in 1931 and passing away on May 25, 1935 and is buried in Frankfort, Indianna. At some point in her life she was adopted by Mr & Mrs Richard Rue, a brick manufacturer originally of Richmond, Indianna. The Rue family moved to Devil's Lake, N.D. in 1883, changing their name to LaRue. Any info as to her parentage, birthplace in Michigan and subsequent adoption would be greatly appreciated. I would also be willing to share any and all information that I have on other members of the Levagood family who were also residents of Kansas,Michigan,Ontario,Ohio, and Pennsylvania Thanks in advance for your assistance!
I'm looking for information on my great-aunt Mary Elizabeth Simposn and her husband, Madison Ora Moore. The story in my family is that they both lived in Indiana and were cousins. Mary Elizabeth's father died and her mother remarried. After that, Mary Elizabeth was sent to live in Kansas with relatives (possibly Simpson, Surface or Moore). Madison either accompanied or followed Mary Elizabeth to Kansas and they were married. I have a photograph of them that I think was their wedding picture. It was taken at State National Art Gallery in Wellington. As their first child was born 6 Sep 1894 in KS, I would assumed the photograph was taken between 1890 and 1893.
Any information would be appreciated,
I am looking for anything pertaining to a "John Wheeler".
He married Willetta Blanche Frambers. Don't know if in Oklahoma or

I am searching for information related to the the Wewerka and
Whitehead
families in Sumner County between 1890 and 1920. Derived information
places the marriage of Lillie (Mae) Wewerka and Robert (Tobias)
Whitehead in Sumner Co. about 1891. Their first child, Goldie Mae
Whitehead,
stated she was born in Hunnewell, Kansas in 1892. Other children of
that union are George G. b: 1895 and Alice P. b: 1897. Goldie later
married Nathaniel Jackson "Jack" Carriger near South Haven in 1908.
The
Carriger's were farmers in the South Haven area between 1880 and

I am researching the Marion Shultz family who were on the 1880 census of
Sumner county and living in Reno. They are as follows:
Marion Shultz 44 born in Ohio
With the large gap in ages from Alfred to John it is strongly possible that

the 1900 Kansas census with James Henry as James's brother. I have no other
informaiton on these folks. If anyone know anything about these men please let
me know.
Thank You, Marcia Davis

My relatives from Wellington
in Sumner County were Bohanna's and Broderson's. I
believe that one
Bohanna was mayor of Wellington for a short time. A. F.
Bohanna, my
grandfather, owned property in downtown Wellington, and was
married
to Grace I. Bohanna--their only child was my mother, Ruth
Irene
Bohanna, who married Walter Jacobus Broderson, my father. My
father's
father, P. A. Broderson, owned a jewelry store in Wellington, but
may
have farmed near Douglass, Kansas, before that.

I would like to obtain some
information on W. Grant Hatfield whom I believe was
located in and
around Caldwell in Sumner County. My information on him is
sketchy,
but I believe that he was born in Sumner County sometime around

I have no information on his parents. Supposedly he died in Caldwell
in

1904 (family
bible), and that he married Ellen Mae Teskey in Seiling,
Dewey Cty, OK on
December 11, 1904 (she is my relative and from
Clinton County, Iowa). They had
a son born and died on March 13, 1906

Grant's wife Ellen Mae and
their infant son in the Caldwell Cemetery
information, but not
Grant.

Apparently my grandfather and
most of his siblings were born in Argonia, KS,
but they apparently
lived in Cherokee, OK. It seems that's a little far to
travel in
those days, but on the 1900 Cherokee, OK, census, they are listed
as
being born in Kansas between the years of 1884 and 1898. Their names
are
Lucy (born and died July 4, 1884), Orie, Ira, Sylvia, Frances,
and Georgia. My
g'grandparents' names were George Washington and
Frances Mary Monyhun. There is
only one of my g'father's siblings
that died in Kansas as far as I know, and
her married name was

had an

For two years I've been on
the hunt for the family of Samuel W. Rhoades.
Hunting on the internet
is absolutely THE best, but so far I've spent a lot of
time heading
for dark passageways that dead-end. Perhaps someone out here will
be
able to offer some assistance.
I have a marriage license
dated 28Feb1892 in Drury. Samuel W. Rhoades married
Cassie Elizabeth
McCombs at the ripe old age of 21 years (she was 16y).
The
certificate was signed by a Minister of the Gospel, J.B.Lowry, the
judge
was J. W. Chapman. On the certificate it claims Cassie was "C.
M. McCombs"
which is unusual since there was no reason to hide her
identity.
Charles McComb and his then
bride, Mary (Hinant) Bailey had moved to Caldwell
for two years
before the Cherokee Strip was opened in 1893. Mr. McCombs
steeled
land near Eddy. As Cassie was yet a teen, I believe she moved with
her
dad (the only parent she had). I further believe it was in this
area that she
met and fell in love with Sam (a proud young
Cherokee).
I've been told that Sam's
father was born in 1792. (This tidbit came from the
family....) It
seems that his father would have then been one of the most
virile
seniors around! I would rather think this man was the grandfather.
On
the family papers it says that Sam was born in Missouri, Andrew
County, I
believe. In looking there for kin, I found
nothing.
There must be someone who has
a connecting point for this man. Because he was
Cherokee, I looked on
the rolls for him as well, but he, himself, isn't on
there. I do know
that he was a full-blood, but cannot link him to a mother
either.
(His son, Charlie carried a card.)
I would appreciate any help
offered. This seems to be my temporary brick wall.

From what has been told to me, C.C. Shore settled
around Oxford sometime in the
mid to late 1800's. Before settling in
Kansas, He lived for a time in Illinois.
He was married to Barbara
Stalcup. I don't know how many children they had but
I do know that
my Great-Great Grandfather Andrew Jackson Shore was his son.
Andrew,
I believe, was not born in Kansas, but settled around Oxford at
the
same time as his father. Andrew was married in Illinois in1878 to
Laura
Lewis. Andrew and Laura had two children Alma Shore and Nora
Faye Shore (My
Great-Grandmother) born March 15, 1893. Alma married
into the HATFIELD family
and Nora Faye married a cattleman from
Wellington, KS named George Oscar KLEIER
in August of 1910. Faye's
dowry was a section of land that Andrew acquired in
one of the
Oklahoma Land Runs.George and Faye had three children: Encel
(My
Grandfather), Elva, and Novel. Encel married Lavonne Tyner of
Ocheleta, OK.
My mother Linda Kleier was born November 28, 1949 and I
was born on July 1,
1966. Any information you have on the Shore's
would be wonderful to know.
I appreciate your
time,
I need to find all that I can
on any Floyd Irving Miller and his son Henry

Wellington KS. Henry Floyd Miller was born in 1922 in

I am looking for info on the
Robert Raymond King family that lived in Sumner
County during the May

help
you could give me in this matter
I am absolutely stuck in
searching my family tree. I can find that my
grandfather Clarence
Royal was born in Geuda Springs, Sumner County, Kansas
05-16-1897.
His parents were Ulysess Royal and Adda Mae Loudansllayer.
Every
where I have searched I can find no other record that Ulysess Royal
or
Adda Mae Loudansllayer ever existed except on my grandfathers
birth certificate.
I'm trying to find
information about my Grandfather, Ernest Elbert Jones (Sr.),
and my
Father, Ernest Elbert Jones Jr. who were born 2 Dec 1900 and 21 Feb
1919
respectively. Ernest (Sr.) was born in or near Wichita and
Ernest Jr. was born
in Wellington, KS. I have recently found out that
Ernest (Sr.) was the son of
Charles Jones and Stella Bradshaw. If
anyone has information regarding these
individuals please email me (

I need help and have very
little to go on. I have a picture taken by E. B.
Snell Elite Gallery,
Wellington, Kas. There are five young people, two girls
standing
behind three young men who are seated. On the back is written "the
Tom
Smith Family". My great grandfather was Thomas Smith, b. 1838 in
western PA.
They were all there in 1850 in Lawrence Co., but his
family moved away except
for him and one brother. James, John,
Phoebe, Sara were all born in the 1840's
and the mother was Jane. She
may have remarried. These are the names I am
looking for in the
Wellington area. Thanks to anyone who can be of help.
