SIMPLE ENGINES ALTAVISTA AltaVista offers the following options: boolean operators (and, or, not), search refinement, language specification, and advanced search capability. EXCITE Excite is a concept search engine with the following features: keyword list, site grouping, and power search. GALAXY Galaxy is a subject directory which promotes browsing. A viewer may search using keywords, boolean (and, or, not) terms, or truncation*. Customization options are available under the Info & Help link. GO.COM Go.com, formerly Infoseek, provides natural language queries. Cluster results by site can be ungrouped. Simple and advanced search options, language options, and date sorting are available. GOOGLE Google is an excellent search engine when searching for government information. A Popularity Ranking is available. Search features include: keyword, quotations (""), -"" phrases and clustering. HOTBOT HotBot permits searches to be limited by date, domain, or media. Automatic clustering of results is provided. Search options are shown in the green navigation bar.
ITOOLS! This site combines many useful online tools under six main headings. Search Tools provide links to search engines and directories. Language Tools includes dictionaries, language translators and a computer terminology dictionary. Financial Tools includes currency converters. Map Tools provides links to driving directions and maps. Internet Tools allows users to search networking, Web and HTML sources. LYCOS Lycos indexes pre-selected "significant words", title bars, and headings. Sites are ranked according to importance of the following: Match All Words, Frequency of Words, or Near Beginning of Text. NORTHERN LIGHT Northern Light offers natural language searching, boolean AND, OR, NOT, +, and -. Phrase results are sorted into folders.
RESOURCE DISCOVERY NETWORK This searchable Web directory links to more than 35,000 invisible Web sites and other Internet resources that are not captured by conventional search engines.

WEBOPEDIA This site provides an online dictionary and search engine for computer and Internet technologies. There is also a link to IT jobs and links for IT news stories. WHATIS? An alphabetical table located at the top of the page searches words or terms in definitions. Internet search options include: Quick Search (search for a specific term) or Full Search (to find every definition that contains the word or phrase indicated). META SEARCH ENGINES 37.COM 37.com searches up to 37 simple search engines, dictionary, and encyclopedia locations. All-in-One searches 500 engines, databases, and indices. The default search engine is Altavista. ASKJEEVES Ask Jeeves offers six search engines plus a "knowledge base" of over 7 million answers. Natural language searching is featured. BEAUCOUP Beaucoup searches up to 10 engines simultaneously and is primarily a mega link page. The Main Menu lists all of the categories, but does not list the individual engines. Follow the category links to go to the links of the engines within each category. DOGPILE Dogpile provides 25 search engines which are grouped in 3's. Extra searching is available through Usenet archives, wire stories, and software archives. HIGHWAY 61 Highway 61 is a meta search site; your search is submitted to Yahoo, Lycos, WebCrawler, Infoseek, and Excite. Results are ranked for the viewer's convenience. Hits per search option are available. MAMMA.COM Mamma.com, "The Mother of All Search Engines", is recognized as one of the top Meta Search Engines on the Internet. Mamma.com is a "Smart Meta Search Engine"; when the user enters a query the powerful proprietary technology simultaneously queries 10 of the major search engines. METACRAWLER MetaCrawler relies on the databases of various Web-based sources; MetaCrawler queries the other search engines, organizes the results into a uniform format, ranks them by relevance, and returns them to the viewer. PROFUSION Profusion features Intelligent Search, a powerful Internet search tool that queries other search engines to get initial results, and then uses artificial intelligence for further processing to deliver the most relevant results.
