2009 Kansas Notable Books
15 outstanding works about Kansas or written by Kansans have been designated Notable Books by State Librarian Christie Brandau.
The list contains fiction, nonfiction, biography, poetry, young adult and children’s books, all published during 2008.
The Kansas Notable Book authors will be honored at a reception this summer, and at various literary events throughout the state.
2009 Letters about Literature Winners Announced
Out of nearly 1000 letters submitted to the Center for the Book by Kansas students, the following winners were selected:
- Level 1: Lauren Marie Hart (Overland Park), 6th grader at Holy Spirit Catholic School for her letter to Janet Lee Carey about Wenny has Wings
- Level 2: Hannah Billings (Shawnee), 7th grader at Monticello Trails Middle School for her letter to Cynthia Lord about Rules
- Level 3: Jordan Schaper (Olathe), sophomore at Olathe South High School for his letter to Pete Rose about My Prison Without Bars
