2008 Call for Entries
3rd Annual Kansas Notable Book List
Kansas Center for the Book

The Kansas Notable Books project is sponsored by the Kansas Center for the Book, a program of the State Library of Kansas. Up to twenty books of all types for all ages are
identified on the Kansas Notable Books List, and libraries, booksellers, schools, and other interested literary organizations are notified.
Eligibility: Books must be...
About Kansas or written by a Kansas author; Of high quality in research and writing; and Published in the calendar year prior to the award year.
Judges –A panel of judges selected from the Kansas Center for the Book Board of Affiliates and previous Notable Book authors will
consider all works identified and recommend up to twenty titles plus five alternates to the State Librarian for final decisions. Panel members represent a range of expertise in librarianship, bookselling, reviewing and publishing. Entries of all types and genres, for all ages, are principally judged on the quality of
writing, organization, interpretation and illustration if these play a role in the decision.
Deadlines – Titles are being entered in the bibliography of 2007 works that will be considered for the 2008 Kansas Notable Books List.
Entries must be received by January 31, 2008. Awards will be recognized at the Kansas Book Festival in 2008.
Entries and recommendations – Send entries and recommendations to Kansas Center for the Book, 300 SW 10th, Room 343N, Topeka, KS 66612-1593. No entry fee is required.
Entrants are responsible for all shipping charges. All books become property of the Kansas Center for the Book.

All genres, reading, and interest levels of books are eligible. Books must be in print format and either currently available in print or with a commitment to be reprinted if
selected as a Kansas Notable Book.
Books by Kansas illustrators and artists, if their work is central to the work, are eligible.
Significantly revised editions are eligible, but not reprints or works with minor revisions. Materials previously published in periodical form, or new anthologies which have
drawn together materials previously published, are eligible.
Each book will be considered in relation to the general reader of the appropriate age level for the book. Books of limited interest or requiring highly specialized knowledge
for their use are not eligible.
To be considered a Kansas author, the author must live in Kansas or have lived in Kansas long enough to identify with the state. Books written about Kansas need not have a
Kansas author to be eligible.
