The Kansas Reads...In Cold Blood book discussion project not only encouraged Kansans to read and discuss a
classic book but also generated new historical information. This display at Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library resulted when a donor came forward with the pastel in this photo a week before the project ended. This is original artwork created
by In Cold Blood's convicted killer, Perry Smith and, ironically, signed by the other felon in Truman Capote's classic, Richard Hickok. The library's blog, "Papercuts," said "We hope this unexpected, last-minute addition to Kansas Reads continues
the project's goals of encouraging and sustaining the on-going spirited discussion."
