I was born in Topeka, Kansas, and moved with my family to the Willamette Valley in Oregon when I was nine years old. I've known I wanted to write fiction from the age of thirteen, after reading books like LITTLE WOMEN, HEIDI, and CADDIE WOODLAWN. I have 9 published novels for children and young adults, 6 of them set in Kansas. THE PLAINSWOMAN, set in Kansas, was my first adult historical novel, followed by my 4-book series, The Women Of Paragon Springs, set in Western Kansas. My latest work, THE BARGAIN, takes place in New Hampshire and Kansas in the 1800s and is currently being circulated to publishers by my agent. My young adult novel, BEFORE THE LARK, received the Spur Award and was a nominee for the Mark Twain Award. My first adult novel, THE PLAINSWOMAN, was a Spur Award finalist in the Best Original Paperback.
