Boorstin Center for the Book Award

 

The Boorstin Center for the Book Award, is supported by an endowment established by Daniel J. Boorstin and his wife, Ruth. Dr. Boorstin created the Center for the Book in 1977 when he was Librarian of Congress. The Boorstin award, presented annually since 1997, recognizes and supports achievements of specific state centers for their contributions to the overall national program and objectives.

Kansas Center for the Book (KCFB) is a non-profit, tax-exempt program. It is a state affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Organized in association with the State Library of Kansas, The Kansas Center for the Book’s role is to provide related resources through promoting past, current, and future works of Kansas authors.  Advocating the literary heritage of the state, the Center’s goal is to encourage reading for pleasure by all Kansans.

In addition to these roles, The Kansas Center for the Book brings readers and writers of all ages together at libraries and bookstores across the state for special events. The Center also supports literary activities through grants and staff assistance. Kansas Center for the Book currently resides within the walls of the State Library of Kansas, Topeka.

Brandau, and Roy Bird, Director of the Kansas Center for the Book, today announced the 2007 Kansas Notable Books.  Fiction, nonfiction and children’s books all populate the list which is considered to contain the best of the books published by Kansas authors or about Kansas in the preceding year.
