(Local Library) Joins Kansas Center for the Book

In Celebrating National Award

Kansas Center for the Book (KCFB) at the State Library of Kansas was one of three state centers recently honored by Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, Washington, DC, as a 2008 winner of the Boorstin Center for the Book Award.  KCFB received recognition for its innovative literacy projects that touched thousands of Kansas readers of all ages--preschool through adults.

“(Name of Library), (city), joins the state in celebrating this prestigious award, as we have been enthusiastic participants in (several, all) of these great programs,” said (name), (title).

Roy Bird, Director of KCFB, who accepted the award in Washington, DC, noted, “this honor acknowledges the work of many Kansans—local librarians, readers, students, teachers, volunteers and others.”  KCFB projects mentioned in the award announcement included the coordination of the Kansas Notable Books list, the Kansas Reads annual one-book statewide discussion project, sponsorship of the Kansas Reads to Preschoolers project, and expanded participation in Letters about Literature.

(Please add a paragraph regarding any activities such as literacy fairs, meet the authors, etc., that you or your library may have organized or hosted in promoting the Kansas Reads annual one-book project, participating in the Kansas Reads to Preschoolers, promoting the Kansas Notable Books list or working with students to participate in Letters about Literacy.)

The Kansas Center for the Book is a state affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. As a program of the State Library of Kansas since 2005, the Center’s role is to promote Kansas books, authors, libraries, booksellers, publishers, and the book community, and to foster awareness of literacy and the literary heritage of the state.  For more information, visit our website:  www.kcfb.info
