National Honor Society The National Honor Society is part of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and was founded in 1921. The hope in founding this organization was to recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democratic society. These ideals of scholarship, character, service, and leadership remain as relevant today as they were in 1921. In our local chapter, students must be a junior or senior and have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. A faculty council then evaluates these students based on service, leadership, and character. Students must go through an interview with a faculty committee. Not all students considered for membership are selected.
