General Information & Guidelines
The following guidelines will ensure optimum use of Kessinger Field for the track and field season, while at the same time helping you to observe rules and regulations to keep our track and field warranty in force.

Schools: The following schools have confirmed entry: Bern, Centralia, Grandview Christian, Hiawatha, Highland, Horton, Jefferson County North, Lafayette, Midway-Denton, Oskaloosa, St. Joe Christian, and Wathena.

Entries: Only 2 entries per event. Entries should be received by Thursday, April 15 at 12:00 noon. The List Of Entries will be available on this web page on Monday, April 19.

Fees: Please send the $100 per school entry fee to Highland High School if you have not already done so.

Team Scoring: 10-8-6-4-2-1 Placing Medals for top 3 finishers of each event including relays. Trophies for Combined Champion, 1st Place Boys, 1st Place Girls, 2nd Place Boys, and 2nd Place Girls.

Results: Results will be available shortly after the conclusion of the meet in the press box. Results will also be posted during the meet on the back of the press box and will be available on the Internet at this page.

Scratch Meeting 1:15 p.m. in lobby of Allen Fieldhouse. No additions or substitutions, scratches only. Scratches are to be made at the field event by the athlete.

Surface: The track is a six lane forty-two inch polyurethane all weather surface.

Spikes: One eighth inch pyramid spikes are required. Individuals with NEEDLE SPIKES or any other type of spikes other than pyramid will not be allowed to compete, by order of the HCC administration.

Markings: NO ATHLETIC TAPE will be allowed on the track!!! Half tennis balls may be used for markers and chalk for the high jump.

Order of Events: KSHSAA recommended order except girls and boys 2 Mile Run

Field Events: 2:00 p.m. - use your own shot, discus, and javelin. Three preliminary attempts. The top seven scores will advance to the finals where there will be three more attempts.

Discus: The Discus will run off at the HCC Football Practice Field Northwest of the Track. A shuttle bus will be provided.  Note Map.

Javelin: Javelin event will be run off at the HCC Football Practice Field Northwest of the Track. A shuttle bus will be provided.   Note Map.

Running Events: Preliminaries will begin at 3:00. After preliminaries, there will be a 20 minute break before finals begin. Preliminaries are run strictly by time.  The six fastest times will go to finals.

Restrooms: Restrooms for public use are located in the lobby area of the Allen Field House. Enter building through southwest doors, restrooms to your right. Please remove cleats before entering building.

Concession Stand: Concession stand is located directly behind the press boxes and will be in full service for all home meets.

Hospitality Room: Tickets will be handed out to two coaches and the bus driver for use at the concession stand.

Parking: The access road behind the press box area will be closed once activities begin. All team buses and vans may unload behind the press boxes but are required to park in the designated parking area one block west of the campus. Note Map.

Non-participants: Only track officials, coaches, and participants are allowed inside the stadium area. The general public is not allowed inside the stadium once activity has begun. Seating is provided in the grandstand area which gives spectators an excellent view of all activities. Performance markers at each field event are easily seen from the grandstand area.

Food & Drink: With exception of water, NO FOOD, DRINK, OR TOBACCO PRODUCTS ARE ALLOWED IN THE TRACK AND FIELD AREAS.

Warm Up Area: Participants will use the area east of the discus throwing sector as a stretching and warm-up area. This is a designated area for participants to warm-up and not a team camping area!
