This article was written; through the efforts of Angie Wagner and Zenobia Kissinger

A familiar figure on Bennington streets for over 26 years was Preston Lamascus. Mr. Lamascus, born in Crawford County, Missouri, came to Kansas in 1915. He married Bessie Simpson of Lamar, Kansas, and the family came to Bennington in 1925. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for a time before taking over his work with the city. His duties were, besides City' Marshall, Street Commissioner, Water Superintendent, reading the water meters and janitorial duties at City Hall.

When Highway 81 went through our CITY he directed traffic and served as Deputy Sheriff which he still is. ''Pres'', as he is known by the community, carried a .45 calibre pistol and says he can draw and fire his gun in 4/5 seconds. He has come in contact during his years service with a number of criminal cases and outlaws that took refuge in a local rooming house. One of his hair-raising experiences was the capture of a bank robber for which he received a reward.
Mr. Lamascus and his wife lost a son, Dr. Elvin Lamascus, in 1958; another son, Franklin, resides in Plattesmouth, Nebraska.

ANRDEW ANDERSON FAMILY HISTORY
By John Darg

A familiar landmark in the Bennington community is the large white house one mile south of town. This modest two-story house was built by Andrew Anderson at the turn of the century.

Mr. Anderson and wife, who was Annie Darg (sister of Alex Darg) came to Ottawa County in the early 80's. Their former home was in western Nebraska. This productive farm was purchased by the Andersons, and with two small sons, they braved the hardship of a pioneer.

They lost a small son, Albert, and another son, Charles, was killed by lightning. Three other children blessed this home, they being Oscar,  Arthur and Mary.

Wanting to get nearer a cattle market  Mr. Anderson purchased a farm near Desota, Kansas. In 1907, he sold his Solomon Valley farm to Frank Drake and the family went to their new home near Desota, Kansas
Mr. Anderson passed away in 1930 and his wife in 1938.  Only one of the family is now living, Oscar of Desoto, Kansas. Mr Drake after a number of years sold this fine farm to Grant Dalrymple, and his son Tommy and wife now reside there.
