There is a wide variety of non-profit organizations in the Bentley community, both for youth programs and for community service.These various groups keep the town spirit alive through special events, block parties, learning programs and community beautification projects.
Bentley/Eagle Township PRIDE Committee
- A community support and improvement group, open to anyone in the city or township, of any age. Bentley/Eagle PRIDE Sponsors the XYZ monthly luncheons for senior citizens, Mobile Health Clinic visits to Bentley; Candidates Forum; Annual Outdoor Christmas Decorating Contest; Town Meetings; Welcome packets; and various other community events throughout the year. Boy Scouts
- A local troop of the Boy Scouts of America, Quivera Council. For more information, call Larry Krueger at (316) 796-0830.
Girl Scouts
- Local troops are members of the Wichita Area Council, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
A Cadette/Senior Troop is active in Bentley. Younger girls can participate in troops in nearby Halstead.
Future of Bentley, Inc. (FBI)
- A community booster/support organization with membership open to interested adults in the Bentley community. FBI sponsors many local festivities, including the Annual Christmas Drawing; Volleyball Tournaments; City-Wide Garage Sale Day; Adult Christmas Caroling and Party and Fruit Basket Delivery; Miss Outrageous Pageant; Bake Sales. FBI is working toward a goal of helping the town develop a park and community center. Volunteer are always needed to help with FBI projects. Neighborhood Watch
- An anti-crime, public awareness coalition of neighbors looking out for each other. Bentley has eight Watch areas, each with its own coordinator. Events are planned at the neighborhood level. Contact person is Laura Fisher, city-wide coordinator, (316) 796-1482.
Eagle 4-H
- A local youth program which offers learning experiences in a variety of projects, including livestock raising, foods preparation and nutrition, electronics, sewing and needlecraft, and other projects of interest to young people. County and state shows on finished projects take place in late summer and early fall. Boys and girls ages seven through 18 are encouraged to join Eagle 4-H. Parents may volunteer their help, also. F.C.E.
- The Family and Community Education program is sponsored by the state Cooperative Extension Service. Locally, members meet in homes to share programs promoting fellowship, continuing education and service for home and community. Formally, the program was known as H.D.U. and then E.H.U. Membership is open to women of all ages. For more information about joining the F.C.E. unit in Bentley, contact Clara Jane Adams at (316) 796-1337.
Bentley Recreation Committee
- Sponsors coach-pitch baseball teams for students grades kindergarten through second grade at this time (PeeWee League), with plans to expand the program to in include all ages as soon as new ballfields are developed. The committee occasionally offers other types of recreation programs and events for various age groups. For more information, contact the city clerk at (316) 796-1799.
X.Y.Z (Xtra Years of Zest)
- A monthly informal covered dish luncheon for area citizens aged 55 or older, meets the third Friday of each month at 11:30 a. m. in the City Hall Meeting Room. Sometimes there is a special program following the luncheon, and free blood pressure checks are available, also. The XYZ program was developed and is sponsored by Bentley-Eagle PRIDE.
