The Blue Rapids Volunteer Fire Department has recently moved into a new building. The members of the department have been raising funds for the past 7 years. Knowing the previous fire station had out-lived its usefulness, members decided to show the community they were ready to work toward the goal of a new station. Through many fundraisers and generous community donations $95,000.00 of the needed $195,000.00 was raised by crew members and the community, the remainder being issued in municipal bonds thereby allowing the new fire station to become a reality.
The new building has five 13' doors which leaves ample room between the trucks. The main level meeting room has been nicely finished to allow members of the community access. There is also a wash room, shower room and handicap accessible restroom on the lower floor. An upper level training room was added to allow for additional training or to set up a SCBA practice area.
