Micro-Lite mine near Buffalo, KS         The site where Micro-Lite is mining was first discovered in 1877. This deposit is located northwest of Buffalo and is called mica peridolite, which is rich in magnesium, iron, and potassium. The site is in the crater of a volcano that existed here 75 to 100 million years ago.

Micro-Lite Processing Plant, Buffalo, KS

        From the mine, the deposit is hauled to the plant at the west edge of Buffalo, where it is finished and shipped by truck.

        In October, 1961, the present company was founded to explore uses for this product. By 1966, it was established that the greatest potential for the product was in the feed business. By 1981, Micro-Lite, Inc. was established as a mineral ingredient supplier to the feed industry.

        Micro-Lite utilizes many agriculture colleges to do research on this product.

        At this time, Micro-Lite markets four products--Pel-Pure, Extra-Fine, standard size and granular to about twenty-five states. They continue to explore the possibilities of new products.
