COFFEY COUNTY AIRPORT

COFFEY COUNTY AIRPORT - Located at 1899 HIGHWAY 75; Burlington, Kansas 66839/Phone:(620)364-5346, Coffey County Airport, completed in 1989, is located on Highway 75 approximately six miles north of Burlington. The airport has state of the art facilities and a 5,500 foot runway.. Characteristics include: Runways that are 18-36, 5,500' x 75'; elevation 117 R/W lights transmitter activated; Identifier  UKLNDB 245 Unicon 123.0; Phillips JETA and 100LL; and GPS and weather radar.  The airport offers an A1 mechanic, ground school, and flight instruction.  Besides the main hangar, twenty T-hangars are provided for airplane storage; T-hangar spaces are available for rent.  [Fuel prices: 100 low lead/$1.75 gallon; Jet $1.39 gallon].  There is a Pilot's Lounge and chartered flights are available, as are courtesy and rental cars. Tour groups are welcome.

Coffey County Airport provides - Alternate Power Unit, Full-time Mechanic on Duty, Full-time Instructor, Rental Aircraft, Data Transmission Network, quick turnaround, courtesy cars, and after-hours service.  Several close restaurants, golf courses and many attractions are available.

FORBES FIELD, TOPEKA - Burlington Residents are only 55 miles from Forbes Field, Topeka, KS. The air field provides non-stop jet service to Chicago and Kansas City.

BUS - PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

RIDE the Public Transportation Bus to medical appointments and for shopping trips.  It  is available through the Coffey County Public Transportation program. All residents of Coffey County are eligible to use the service.  For an appointment on the bus, call 620-364-1935 by noon the day before scheduled trip.

Major highways serving the area are Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 75. The county is strategically located midway between Omaha and Tulsa on U.S. 75, and midway between Kansas City and Wichita on I-35. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, U.S. Highway 75 through Burlington has one of the highest north-south traffic counts in the state. Burlington provides residents the enjoyment of small town living with larger cities within a short drive.

Coffey County Hospital and Emergency Services - Several services are offered which include, but are not limited to, diagnostic services, emergency room and ambulance services, surgery, physical therapy, a home health agency, rural out patient clinics (Gridley, Lebo, LeRoy, Lyndon and Waverly), an affiliated retirement center, and a Mobile CT Scanner. Some of the emergency services offered include: a 24-hour full-time crew, three EMS Units and a rescue vehicle. The Coffey County Medical Center is located at the northeast end of the hospital.

Burlington Commerce Park

The City of Burlington has recently constructed a new 18-acre commercial park. Commerce Park is located south of Burlington on Highway 75.  

Burlington Industrial Park #1:

Approximately 4.5 acres with full utility services. Owned by the City of Burlington, building sites range from 1.10 acres to 7.42 acres.

Burlington Industrial Park #2:

Industrial Park #2 has 2.5 acres with full utility services.

Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS) - Located about four miles northeast of Burlington, the facility occupies about 10,000 acres including a 5,000 acre cooling reservoir. The reservoir is filled with record breaking game fish. The lake opened to the public in the Fall of 1996.

The plant serves some 700,000 retail customers in Kansas and Missouri, and set a U.S. record for its first, second and fifth years of power production.

Coffey County Library - The Coffey County Library was constructed in 1994 and has approximately 14,490 square feet. MUSEUM

The Coffey County Historical Society and Museum offers a wide variety of turn-of-the-century memorabilia which includes a collection of 140 dolls; a model train display; a 1950s dental office, a 1940s medical office; a 1947 Mack Fire Truck; Indian artifacts; a blacksmith shop; a military display form the Civil War through the Persian Gulf, a 100-year old schoolhouse and much more. The Museum also offers a Genealogy Research Library with an abundance of information.
