Busy days in Bethlehem
Every room was full
They came for census taking
Excitement knew no lull
Families gathered; news was shared
Children, slightly awed
Nights were cold, they sought their beds
No one roamed abroad
Then Joseph came with Mary
And in the stable laid
This precious Holy mother
Straw pillows for her head
No one saw the star that night
Though it proclaimed the birth
Of tiny baby Jesus
The Savior of the Earth
Only shepherd in the fields
Were told the great good news
By angels in a heavenly choir
The lowly - tending ewes
No one Knew - or would have cared
Another child was born
But all mankind was blessed
On that Holy Christmas night
