Old Hundred, District #100
1872 - 1872
1874 - 1946
Township 32; Range 14 East
Old Hundred as #100 came to be called in the Elk City area was a changeling child. Originally organized in July of 1872 in the Bolton area the organization meeting of the patrons failed to materialize and the district was disorganized in September of that year. (9/23/72). The territory was divided among the Oak Ridge, Fairview, and Harrisonville districts. Later at about the time of the discovery of oil and gas in this area it was revived again as #104.
In the meantime on August 25, 1875, Superintendent Bass organized a new #100 in the area east of the Elk City district. This time the patrons and electors did meet on September 9, 1874 and did perfect the organization by the election of officers. George Owen offered his house as the meeting place for this business. The following year they received $32.30 from the county and state fund and again in August of that year $24.23 or about $1.34 for each of the forty-two childen on the census for that area.
This school with its organization continued to function until the consolidation era of 1946-47. Where they held school from 1874 to 1877 is not stated unless they built the house and acquired the title to the site later. For the deed given the district by John R. Dodson is dated August 9, 1887. The board paid one dollar in consideration and promised that the land would revert to the owner should they no longer hold school there. The year 1945-46 was the last for the district. Bertha Koecker was the last teacher and eleven pupils attended her classes.
On March 1, 1946 district #100 was disorganized again, its territory going to Elk City #11 this time.
