Special Events in Haviland, Kansas

 

*Antique Engine & Thresher Show

          The show is held the last weekend of August each year.  The thresher show is an annual event of the SouthWest Kansas Antique Engine & Thrasher Association.  It includes exhibits of antique garden tractors, vehicles, tractors, horse equipment, wood planer, gasoline engines, saw mill, grain thrashing, stationary hay-baling, and miniature exhibits.  Other events include an antique and classic tractor pull, a parade, kids tractor pull, arts and crafts, antique display and quilting.

 

*City-Wide Garage Sale

          A city-wide garage sale is held on the Saturday of Thresher Show Weekend.  Many families participate and maps are available at the post office and Haviland Hardware to locate where the garage sales are.

 

*Barclay College Auction

          The show is held the first Saturday of October each year.  The auction is an annual fundraising event for the college.  A large variety of items will be up for auction including antiques, hand and machine quilted quilts, ceramics, food items and many other items.  For more information about the auction email the Barclay College Ladies Auxiliary.

 

*Christmas Pageant

          The pageant is held in December of odd number years. The pageant is produced with a joint partnership between Haviland Friends Church and Barclay College.  The pageant features a large cast of both people and animals (see photos below) This year the pageant will be December 8-9, 2007.  The pageant will be performed three times.  There is no charge for watching the performances and donations are accepted.  Performances will be Saturday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m.; Sunday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.  For more information email Herb Frazier.
