The Highland Senior Citizen Center and Highland meal site is located in the former Methodist Church.  Bev Evans is the site director.  All senior citizens 60 years and older are most welcome.

Noon meals are served at the Center Monday through Friday.  Those 60 and over pay $2.00 per meal and anyone under sixty $4.00 per meal.  Meals are delivered in Highland and the surrounding area to those desiring the meals and that are unable to come to the Center.  At the present time, the following volunteers delivering the meals are Sam Dunn, Bob Jeffers, Stanley McCauley and John Batchelder.

The Highland Center kitchen prepares meals also for sites in Denton, Troy, Wathena, White Cloud and Elwood.  There are also delivered by volunteers.

General public transportation is available at the Doniphan County sites.  Highland’s bus day (going to St. Joseph) is Friday.  Other days are available for doctor’s appointments or emergency trips.  Call 785/442-5550 or 785/985-2380 for more information.

The Center offers Vita-Band Exercise Classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.  Betty Snyder leads these PATH (Personal Action To Health) classes.

Blood pressures are taken the 1st Tuesday each month 10:30 to 11:30 am. By the Doniphan County Health nurse.

Potlucks are enjoyed the last Friday of each month at 6:00 p.m.  All seniors are welcome.

The Center has a well-equipped library, which is a branch of our Doniphan County library based in Troy.   Betty Snyder is Highland’s librarian.  All ages may check out books and videos.  Books not in the library will be requested from other libraries if you desire.

Pitch parties are enjoyed for those interested.

Organizations, upon request, are welcome to the Center.  The Highland Lions Club and Kiwanis Club meet here regularly.  The Center would like to thank the Lions for repairing our pool table and the Lioness for shampooing the carpet.

Volunteers are always appreciated.  To volunteer at the Center, please contact Bev at the Center 785/442-5550.
