In northern Barton County, a hospital is much more than a source of medical care. It is a center dedicated to your family's welfare. It's where parents rejoice in hearing their newborn child's first cries, where pain is eased, where people learn to cope with chemical dependency, where disease and disability are overcome. It's where our team of more than 70 professionals doctors, nurses, medical specialists and others unite in the excellence of your family's health care. In 1990, on its 40th anniversary, Hoisington's hospital became Clara Barton Hospital. It was an historic change that covered more than a name. Clara Barton, our county's namesake, symbolizes all that our hospital stands for.
"We keep cheerful
and toil on" Clara Barton In the spirit of Clara Barton, we've looked to ourselves for the solutions to the health care crisis that haunts all of rural Kansas. Clara Barton never waited for government help. Where there was need, she took her compassion and innovation.
And her attributes of compassion, innovations and dedication to excellence are evident in all that we do.
We care for your family.
Clara Barton HospitalAny of the area's physician may admit you to Clara Barton Hospital should you need acute medical care. Another 20 area physicians are called upon for specialty care in pathology, radiology, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedics and cardiology.
Acute CareNurses are here around the clock and, together with nurse assistants, they watch over patients and give the care needed for recovery.
Our respiratory therapy staff performs tests to diagnose illness and gives therapeutic treatments to help patients breathe easier. The lab staff performs tests such as heart enzymes, liver and kidney function, blood typing, cholesterol, total chemistry profiles and other studies to give your physician an overall picture of your health.
Diagnostic X-rays and heart monitoring are done by the X-ray department. A mobile unit comes here five times a week for sonograms. Mammograms, X-rays of the breast, to detect tumors, are also performed here.
Our physical therapy staff guides patients in exercises to relieve pain and restore health and independence. Physical therapy may be called for in a variety of diagnoses from arthritis to fractured bones to joint replacements.
Our in-house pharmacist fills medication needs and provides education in the chemical dependency unit.
All types of injuries and illnesses are treated in the emergency room by our nurses and physicians. Patients with severe and multiple injuries are stabilized and, if necessary, transferred by ambulance or airlifted to a major tertiary hospital.
Emergency ServicesThe staff at Clara Barton Hospital tries to make the birth of a baby a special experience for all involved. Our birthing bed and fetal monitoring makes childbirth more comfortable and safe for the mother and child. The infant may be cared for by nurses in our nursery or the mother may choose what's called "rooming in" where she cares for the baby in our specially furnished bonding room.
ChildbirthBefore any operation, the patient's surgeon, physician, nurse or anesthetist will answer any worrisome questions. Both major and minor surgeries are performed at Clara Barton Hospital by this operating team.
SurgeryFor people caring for another person at home, respite care given at the hospital by our staff can give a needed break or vacation from responsibilities.
Respite Care
Swing BedsFor those older than 65 who may need extended nursing care after illness, we offer what's called "swing bed care." Nurses continue to take care of the patient in his or her same room, although a doctor's daily visit isn't necessary. Medicare pays the cost of this care for some people.
For those younger than 65 who don't qualify for Medicare, or for those patients older than 65 who no longer can qualify for skilled care swing beds, nursing care can be given at a reduced rate in what's called "intermediate care." Patients themselves pay for this care.
Many employees work behind the scenes to contribute to the healing process. Special diets are planned by dietary staff. A clean, safe environment and attractive grounds are the work of the housekeeping and maintenance employees.
Behind the ScenesAdministration and the office staff manage the business aspects of our hospital. Medical records staff see that your records are completed so your insurance company can be billed soon after dismissal and so you understand any charges you must pay.
Compassion, innovation and dedication to excellence are the hallmarks of Clara Barton Hospital. Call our administrator if there's more you'd like to learn.
