The Santa Fe Depot houses the Cannonball Welcome Center and the beginnings of a railroad museum.  The building is being restored (the major part of restoration is finished) back to its original splendor.  Travelers may stop by to check out the latest brochures from across the state of Kansas and use the rest facilities that are available.

The museum features railroad memorabilia from a private collection, from items found within the depot, and other items that have been donated or loaned.  There is also a display of HO gauge model trains.  Small meetings, reunions, receptions, etc., can be held within the building and the Santa Fe Depot Foundation, which owns the building, can serve dinner meetings and occasionally serves a public meal.

The Santa Fe Depot is located on what was originally the Wichita & Western Railroad line.  A few years later it became the Santa Fe.  On Jan. 1, 1994, the line was purchased by a shortline railroad, Central Kansas Railway, which operated until June 30, 2001, at which time another shortline took over the operation as Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad.  The Santa Fe Station, viewed from the track side, in Kingman, Kansas. The Santa Fe depot, a county seat style brick building, was built in 1910-1911 to replace the wood depot.  It featured steam heat and an abundance of electric lights.  It has a brick patio all around the building and a brick sidewalk leads to Main Street.  Round arches are featured in the open air waiting room.  Separate freight and baggage rooms are on the east end of the depot.  The wood depot was set back a ways and served as a freight depot for many years before being torn down.
