Vision Statement:

Mission:

The collection, programs, and services provided by the Linwood Community Library will reflect the lifelong learning needs of its patrons and respond to their informational, cultural and recreational interests.

GOAL 1:

PHYSICAL GROWTH

  • Review library expansion with board, patron surveys and Friends Group

  • Form a focus group specific to library growth

  • Build funds to accommodate growth:

  1. Apply for 501(c) (3) Tax Exempt Status
  2. Utilize local civic groups in efforts to develop funds (Masons, Lions, Friends, etc.)
  1. Contact legal advisors re: increasing district boundaries or possibly operating 2 districts from one location
  2. Investigate grant opportunities
  3. Establish and publicize building fund
  •      Begin discussions with the Community Development Corporation:

  2. Consider swapping areas with the “Community Building” including some remodeling
  3. Ask for more space from the “Community Building” area
  •       Consider purchase of new facility

GOAL 2:

BETTER INFORM THE COMMUNITY ABOUT OUR LIBRARY

  • Evaluate the presentation of information presented to the community (i.e.: website, brochures, newsletters, etc.)

  • Newsletter:

  1. Send more frequent newsletters if feasible (monthly)

  2. Send more frequent newsletters if feasible (monthly)
  3. Include a link on the website to a full copy of the newsletter
  • Evaluate our phone service for the beneficial prefix (723, 301, and 800)
  • Create a logo to create a “brand” image specific to our library and all written communication will include it
  • “Advertise” the library:

1.      Contact realtors and provide them with a brochure

2.      Possibly post a bulletin board at the café

3.      Notify local newspapers and newsletters of library events, perhaps occasionally use a paid advertisement

4.      Check into legality of having a flyer at the voting locations during elections

5.      Investigate using the company “Postcard Mania” to send out post paid postcard surveys

6.      Include “Buds Corner” when posting library activities

·  Keep the website current and informative; perhaps update its look to appeal to more people

·  Improve relationship with school(s) so that we can send information via the school to students and their parents about library activities (include Basehor/Linwood Sixth Grade Center, Glenwood Ridge Elementary and Basehor/Linwood High School)

CONTINUING STRATEGIES

·        Provide welcome pamphlet with current info to new patrons and community members

·        Coordinate programs/events directed at teen groups, young adults and all adults

·        Continue to expand the Summer Reading Program

·        Continuous improvement of all library collections

·        Support and encourage growth of the Library Friends Group
