The Moran City Council met in special session on Monday, October 8, 2001. Mayor Phillip Merkel called the meeting to order at 6:05 PM. Councilmembers present were Mike Holman, James Mueller, and Debbie Sager. Also present was Lori Evans, City Clerk.

Moran Community Center

Mayor Merkel informed the Council that a group of residents from the community have offered cash contributions to be used in building a new senior-community center. The Council discussed and posed the following questions regarding a joint venture between the City and the County in building a new senior-community center:

  • Who would be responsible for building maintenance?

  • Who would be responsible for utility and telephone costs?

  • Who would be responsible for day-to-day operations and/or employing a site manager?

  • What type of use policy would be imposed? Senior citizen use only? Rental restriction regarding alcohol or tobacco use inside the facility?

  • Location for the proposed building.

  • Who would own the building?

  • If the City owns the building, would the County consider providing an annual subsidy to assist in maintenance and operations?

The Council discussed proposed locations in further detail and asked the Clerk to prepare a list of the questions posed so the questions can be forwarded to the County Commissioners.

Councilman Sager moved the meeting adjourn at 8:06 PM. Holman seconded the motion, motion passed with unanimous approval.
