Where & When Do We Meet?  Every Thursday Noon at the Buzz Cafe Oxen House, 800 Main St., Sabetha, Kansas.  We feature a rowdy bunch that likes to have fun.  We always have an interesting and informative guest speaker.  Visitors are welcome and will be made to feel at home!  (return to top)

What Is Kiwanis?  Kiwanis International was founded January 21, 1915, in Detroit, Michigan.  Kiwanis is an organization devoted to the principle of service; to the advancement of individual, community, and national welfare; and to the strengthening of international goodwill.  Kiwanis membership spans the globe, with more than 8,500 Kiwanis clubs with more than 315,000 members in 82 nations and geographic areas, giving on average $70 million and 6.5 million volunteer hours for community service each year.  (return to top)

What Does The Name "Kiwanis" Mean?  The name "Kiwanis" was adapted from the expression "Nunc Kee-wanis" in the Otchipew (Native American) language, meaning "We have a good time," "We make a noise," or, under another construction, "We trade or advertise."   Some persons prefer to pronounce the word "ki"; others, "kee."  (return to top)

Who Are Kiwanians?  Kiwanians are individuals who give a little of their time to make their communities and the world better places in which to live and work.  As members of a local club, members have the opportunity to:

Make business and professional contacts.
Learn first-hand about local, national, and international issues.
Improve and use leadership skills.
Participate in the life of their community and world.
Develop lifelong friendships.

What Are Our Service Projects?   Following are some of our ongoing service projects:

Sponsor Builders Club at Sabetha Middle School.
Kiwanis Club Scholarships for college students and EMTs.
Help sponsor Project Prom.
Adopt-A-Highway cleanup program.
Sponsor Punt, Pass & Kick program.
Sponsor Sabetha Boy Scout Troop.
Sponsor Sabetha Cub Scout Troop.
Scholarships for Girl Scouts.
Sponsor Annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Sponsor High School students to Kiwanis Key leader program.
Sponsor boy and girl to Boys State and Girls State.
Sponsor bike riders in Rodeo Parade.
Collect money for and help with Albany Days.
Paint buildings at Albany.
Help with county’s child immunization program.
Furnish Chain Gang at SHS home football games.
Sponsor Trolley Rides at Christmas Opening Night.
Books for Mary Cotton Library.
Christmas Food Packages to Financially Challenged Families
Read books to Kindergarteners.
Provide dictionaries to 3rd graders.

We also make monetary and time contributions to various other organizations in Sabetha to assist with their service projects.
