Towanda Public Library 620 Highland Towanda, Kansas 67144 (316) 536-2464 towan1lb@powwwer.net Library Hours 1:00pm–7:00pm Monday 10:00am–6:00pm Wednesday 10:00am–6:00pm Friday 10:00am–1:00pm Saturday The GWFC Nokomis Club started the Towanda Public Library as the Towanda Library on December 19, 1936 in Sutcliffe Drug Store. It was only open on Saturday mornings, and such things as fudge and the like were sold to help keep things going. It was moved around four or five times until moving into the present dedicated building in October of 1987, with the dedication being in December 14, 1987. The Towanda Public Library is a 3,000 square foot building located at 620 Highland just three short blocks north of Sixth and Main Streets in Towanda. We are now open four days a week to better serve you. Come on in and let us find the book, tape or reference resource you are looking for, either right here in the Library, or through the Interlibrary Loan System. We are part of the state library system and have the resources available to help you with your research project. We can also find that book you have been hearing about and have been wanting to read. Come in and meet us and look around awhile! We look forward to your visit!

• Family Story Time- Wednesday at 10:30-11:30, 0-3 yrs
• Interlibrary Loan - If we do not have the requested material, we can obtain items from another library for your convenience.
• Summer Reading Program- Begins first Wednesday of June and continues every Wednesday morning through the end of July. Contact Library for Further Details about this summers attractions.

• Book sale continuously at the library. Hundreds of books for the cost of a donation.

To Return Books...

We have a return bin accessible from the outside for everything but records and tapes.

• March 15, 2008 - - 10:30 A.M.  Children's Easter Egg Hunt, Norman Park, 620 Highland!!!Annual Easter Egg Hunt for all children of Towanda.  Join the Easter Bunny to search for Easter eggs and enjoy cookies and candy.  Bring your own Easter basket!
• May 16 - 17, 2008.  Friends of the Library, Monterrey Sale.  Enjoy delicious homemade monterreys during Towanda Garage Sale Days, Friday and Saturday at the Community Center
• May 22, 2008, 3:30 - 6:00, Norman Park, 620 Highland, Summer Reading Program kickoff party.Catch the Reading Big @ your Library is kicking off May 22 from 3:30 - 6:00 PM. Come have a hotdog and drink and sign up for the summer reading program.
• June 4 to July 30, 2008 - Summer Story Hour Starts. 10:30-11:30 A.M. Wednesdays. Children 3 Yrs. and above may come and join in. Adults welcome to stay.
• Annual Ice Cream Social and Fundraiser  - July 21, 2008 7:00 P.M.

We Need Your Help!!! The Friends of Towanda Public Library need volunteers to help with events & activities. In the past, the Friends has contributed to the library by assisting with programs, book sales, decorations, fairs, fundraisers, and all new endeavors.
