St Peter Church

A centennial was celebrated in 1984 marking 100 years of service to this Catholic community. It was noted at that time that only five priests had served St. Peter's since the first resident pastor came in 1901. That first resident pastor stayed only a short time because of illness. His successor built the present church before he left in 1908. A white frame structure with an impressive steeple tower, St. Peter's measures 42 by 100 feet with a seating capacity of 325. A school and convent for the three Sisters of St. Joseph followed soon after. In 1912 a new pastor built a new rectory.

A red-letter day for the children of Willowdale and vicinity was the dedication of the new school building in 1925. Lightning had struck the old school during a spring storm in 1924 reducing the building to ashes.
